  • 🔔 Read Simo's post for important information regarding the deprecation of Container Registry in the Google Cloud Platform, and what this means for your server-side tagging deployments. ✅ TL;DR – you don't need to worry. Google has migrated the container image appropriately, and your deployment is safe.

📣 Server-side Google Tag Manager and Container Registry deprecation 📣 If you have a deployment of server-side Google Tag Manager on the Google Cloud Platform, you might have received emails regarding the deprecation of Container Registry and the need to migrate to Artifact Registry. These technologies are related to how Google stores and serves the container image that runs the server-side tagging application. They are *not* your responsibility or your problem to solve. Your deployment simply pulls the container image from Google's repository. Google has already migrated the container image from Container Registry to Artifact Registry, and they did so without changing the container URL. So your server-side tagging deployments are safe, as long as they use the original Docker image URL (https://lnkd.in/d6vX48Rg), which you should be using in any case. You might, of course, receive this warning due to other applications or services in your projects relying on Container Registry, in which case you should follow the migration guide that Google offers (https://lnkd.in/dDETTPdm). If you are running Cloud Run Functions (1st Gen), your functions will automatically be migrated to Artifact Registry, as long as you've enabled the Artifact Registry API. Recap: ✅ Server-side tagging applications do not need any application from users regarding the deprecation of Container Registry. ✅ If you have other services using Container Registry (or if you've deployed your own containers), follow the transition guide to migrate to Artifact Registry. ✅ Cloud Run Functions will automatically start using Artifact Registry. Happy containering!

  • 5 Things You Need to Know Before Using a Tag Manager 🏷️ Are you thinking about using a tag manager like Google Tag Manager (GTM)? We have listed 5 key things you need to know before you dive in. Starting new things the right way helps you avoid headaches down the line and sets you up for success. 1. Start by drafting a data strategy A tag manager makes tracking implementation easier, but it won’t fix or replace your data strategy. Define what you want to track before you start adding tags and keep your tracking goals in mind when you do. 2. Make sure your data layer is structured A structured data layer is essential when you want reliable tracking results. It ensures that marketing and analytics tags pull consistent, accurate data from your site. 3. Schedule time for maintaining your tag manager Keep in mind that all tag managers require ongoing maintenance to work properly. Regular audits, debugging, and version control help prevent broken tracking and messy implementations. 4. Restrict access to relevant people only Make sure you give edit access only to relevant people to avoid unnecessary errors and tracking conflicts. Set clear user roles and use approval workflows to manage changes. 5. Debugging and testing is crucial Don’t forget to test your tags before publishing. In GTM you can use the ‘Preview Mode’ and browser developer tools to check that everything fires correctly. 📌 Ready to level up your tracking game? Check out Simmer’s courses and master tag management the right way. #technicalmarketing #tagmanagement #simmer #tracking #data #analytics
