About us

Tukes supervises and promotes the technical safety and conformity, together with the consumer and chemicals safety in Finland. We aim at a safe, technically reliable and ecologically sustainable society. We supervise products, services and production systems in our branches, and enforce the relevant legislation. The purpose of our operation is to protect people, property and the environment from any safety risks. Our organisation has five Departments: Products Department, Industrial Department, Chemicals Department, Department for Information and Development and FINAS Finnish Accreditation Service. Our branches are: - electricity and lifts - industrial handling of chemicals and gases - mining, gold panning and ore prospecting - explosives, fireworks and pressure equipment - chemicals, biocides and plant protection products - measuring instruments, articles of precious metals - ozone-depleting substances and F-gases, - rescue service equipment - construction products - consumer safety - energy efficiency and eco-design of products. Tukes operates subject to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, which in charge of administrative steering and supervision. Other steering Ministries in their respective branches are Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and Ministry of the Environment.
