See you at Slush!
👋 Twinbase is currently a Business Finland funded Research-to-Business project at Aalto University. We will spin-off to a company at the beginning of 2025. We are able to do free pilot projects until the end of year 2024! ❓ What is Twinbase? Twinbase is a software service for transferring construction product data between organizations. We are digitalizing the construction industry by creating a new interoperability layer for construction product data. 🔨 At Twinbase, we make it easy for construction professionals to find and utilize accurate product information. We gather data from various sources, harmonize, and enrich it to ensure it is always reliable and up-to-date. This data is provided through APIs, enabling it to integrate effectively with existing systems. 👷♀️ By providing accurate product data, we help construction teams work faster, make better decisions, and complete projects more efficiently and sustainably. Our goal is to transform how construction projects are planned and managed by offering easy-to-use digital solutions into every phase of construction.

🗣️ "Investors are talking about Twinbase behind our back" was one point in our quick internal summary of the Arctic15 startup conference. Which means that we are starting to find the right way to pitch our rather complicated deep tech solution. 🧑💻 Just wait until we have our visual platform ready for demoing, making it even easier to grasp the advantages of our approach. 💡 Overall, the event confirmed that we are doing the right things also from the investor perspective!
While Tommi represented Twinbase in Silicon Valley, Juuso went to Hannover Messe 2024 to learn about the current state of digital twin standardization with the Asset Administration Shell (AAS)
♊ Standardized digital twins? ♊ Asset Administration Shell (AAS) by IDTA - Industrial Digital Twin Association seems to be leading method to standardize digital twins, so last week I visited HANNOVER MESSE 2024 to learn more about the current state of AAS adoption and technology. Here are my key takeaways: Large industrial component manufacturers are adopting AAS in great numbers. At least HARTING Technology Group and Bosch Rexroth have AAS for most of their products, and pretty much all of the usual large German automation manufacturers are following with confidence. It seems the future will be full of AAS! Use cases for AAS include e.g. calculating the carbon footprint of a whole system, importing various product data to engineering systems, accessing real-time data, providing calibration certification of a sensor, and comparing similar products. And of course creating a Digital Product Passport. So the variety of use cases is large and they are getting more advanced! Software solutions for processing AAS are being provided by several companies, I counted at least 12! In addition, large manufacturers often create their own software to handle AAS, and there are open-source software solutions too! From technical side, I was happy to hear from Sebastian Käbisch that the W3C Web of Things Twin Description has been well adopted in an easily convertible manner to the AAS as AID (Asset Interface Description). Also Dr. Birgit Boss shared that the RDF serialization for AAS is not as advanced as XML and JSON just because there has not been many users of RDF up to now. Previously I have had my doubts about some technical aspects of AAS, but now it seems that those will be solved with the current strong momentum of AAS! Thanks IDTA - Industrial Digital Twin Association first for the huge standardization effort and then also for the convenient arrangements at the messe. The guided tour was great way to get up to speed and the brochure listing the relevant booths was great help in finding the rest of the relevant people. I also collected all 28 twins of the Follow the Twin Challenge by Open Industry 4.0 Alliance, it was a fun way to get to know the various solutions! 😃 (Thanks to Ruediger Fritz for the nudge to collect them!) 🔽 As summary, AAS is an ongoing revolution in how industrial companies exchange product data with each other! 🔼 Twinbase will be offering solutions in this space, follow to stay updated! And contact me if you are interested in free-of-charge piloting. (Free-of-charge thanks to the support by Business Finland). #digitaltwin #standardization #aas #hannovermesse
We are starting interesting pilot for automated transmission of product data in the HVAC and plumbing sector in collaboration with the Finnish product data provider LVI-INFO. The article is in Finnish, feel free to translate or ask Juuso Autiosalo or Tommi Rimpiläinen for more information!
Kiinnostava pilotti tuotedatan automatisoituun välitykseen alkamassa. Lue lisää ja ilmoittaudu mukaan: https://bit.ly/3UZuHZd #twinbase #tuotetieto #api #data #LVI
Come meet us tomorrow (6th of March) between 1pm to 5pm at the Demo Day of Aalto Startup Center, located in A Grid, Otaniemi, Espoo! More info and registration: https://lnkd.in/dmTKaq_Q
Juuso shares some of our long-term visionary thinking. Aside from that, discussions in the HVAC and construction industries are starting to look promising. Stay tuned!
I am building the phygital world 🌎🌐🌍🌐🌏🌐 A world where certain parts of the physical and digital worlds are so connected that they cannot be separated from each other. So connected that we need a new word that describes things that are both physical and digital at the same time. So connected that if either the physical or digital part of a phygital thing is removed, it is not the same thing anymore. These phygital things will be everywhere around us and they will be networked with each other, helping us do what we (want to) do. Use cases are so plentiful that I don't even try to describe them here. (Sorry for that.) There are several different paths and steps to take on the long journey towards the phygital world. I believe it will be worth it as it will take humanity to the next level on several fronts. The journey started as an abstract idea and now the first steps are taking shape. Yes, I am already on that journey. Are you with me? (The picture is not directly related to the post. It is from a visit to "We Land" construction site in Ruoholahti, Helsinki, built by NCC. Our Twinbase team is thankful for the opportunity to pitch some of our preliminary ideas.)
