📗 WEEKEND READ 📗 UEF #CECE researchers Subhanjan Sengupta and Hanna Lehtimäki recently published a study on ‘Fostering Resilience in the Rural Context Through Sustainability Agency in Social Entrepreneurship’. Link: https://lnkd.in/dtSb_hUe The study analyses evidence from a rural context in a desert region in India in a post-pandemic situation, and illustrates how a social enterprise combines human development, circular economy, and value creation. With this, they examine how a social enterprise can combine social, environmental, and economic sustainability to foster resilience at multiple levels in a rural context that is coping with several challenges. This study puts social sustainability at the heart of using circular economy as a measure for rural resilience and economic opportunity creation by including and empowering communities at risk. With this contribution, the study is part of Project MILESTONE (Making Circular Economy Socially Inclusive through Entrepreneurship) funded by the Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia. It was also supported with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture under the FICORE (Finnish Consortia for Research and Education) Global Pilot network. 📗 WEEKEND READ 📗 Researcher Beatrice Re, Ph.D. together with #CECE researchers Kaisa Henttonen, Ville-Veikko Piispanen and Hanna Lehtimäki published a book chapter titled "The Role of Institutional Environment in Catalysing Circular Entrepreneurship. A Cross-Country Comparison of Finland and Italy". This chapter was published in "The Routledge Handbook of Catalysts for a Sustainable Circular Economy". This research paper compares the institutional environment's influence on CE start-ups in Finland and Italy, using six case studies. - Regulative (laws and policies), normative (funding and financial support), and cultural-cognitive (public awareness and societal norms) in focus. - CE start-ups face conflicts with existing institutional structures, such as misaligned regulations and limited public awareness. - Emphasizes the need for an integrated institutional framework to create supportive environments for circular ventures to thrive. A highly recommended read for anyone interested in circular entrepreneurship, startups, institutional environment, circular business model, and circular economy.
