It was a bleak, cheerless UK October and a hankering for some winter sun led us to the Medplaya Bali Hotel. Booked a halfboard package for myself, she who must be obeyed and of course he who never listens. It's been 15yrs since I was last here and some of the reviews were shall we say perhaps a little Shakesperian and plaguerised so what's what. he Bali has been modernised with new reception and facilities. There plenty of outside areas and pools with facilities for kids. I didn't use the pool myself as my stick isn't waterproof but they were very clean and not aware of any closures during our week. We witnessed the pool equivalent of a roomba every morning. There were lots of sunbeds available when we went. Staff were friendly and helpful - generally if you treat people the same as you would like to be treated there shouldn't be a problem. The drinks were reasonable compared to outside of hotel. We were close to the beaches and other bars and restaurants and leisure activities nearby Depending on which part of hotel you're in, great sea views - we stayed in building 2. And if you're like me and need a stick or use a wheelchair; there is nowhere you cannot go in this hotel. Perhaps just a few wobbles to consider. If you have mobility issues, hotel is near top of steep hill although pace yourself right and there's a low wall along it for respite. Myself and stick managed it for seven days. Food was not great and sometimes overdone or in the case of scrambled eggs, massively underdone. No fresh juices at breakfast - some sort of cordial orange and the coffee was poor. Remember, this is our taste not everyone's. Perhaps the hotel should consider locating some bread by the toasters in future. And he who never listens, having a nut allergy; had to be wary of cross contamination on Saturday due to the chicken satay. Bottom line was it VFM and would I go again.............Absolutely!
