KABUL – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan welcomes a US$7 million contribution from the Government of Japan to support emergency food assistance, prevent malnutrition and bolster school feeding programmes.

PORT SUDAN, Sudan – Intense fighting in Zamzam camp in Sudan’s North Darfur region has forced the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to temporarily pause the distribution of life-saving food and nutrition assistance in the famine-hit camp for displaced people. Over the past two weeks escalating violence left WFP’s partners with no choice but to evacuate staff for safety.

KYIV, Ukraine — As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, an estimated five million Ukrainians are facing food insecurity, with the greatest needs concentrated in areas near the frontlines. According to data collected by the UN World Food Programme (WFP), millions of people are resorting to coping mechanisms, sacrificing their own meals so their children can eat. Others are going into debt to buy sufficient food supplies to feed their families.

BORNO – In the wake of the devastating floods that hit Borno State in September 2024, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has contributed US$ 1 million from its Special Relief Fund to support emergency food response for flood-affected communities in Northeastern Nigeria.

DHAKA – The Government of Italy has renewed its commitment to the one million Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh with a contribution of €3 million towards the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to sustain critical humanitarian assistance in refugee camps.

YOKOHAMA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a timely contribution of US$58 million from the Government of Japan. This contribution will enable WFP to support vulnerable populations affected by conflict, climate change, and economic crisis in 28 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Thousands reached with Nutrition assistance

KINSHASA- The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has partially resumed food assistance in parts of Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) delivering vital nutrition supplies for the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months as three weeks of fighting continues to worsen access to food for the most vulnerable.

ANTANANARIVO /JOHANNESBURG– The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has for the first time in three months, delivered life-saving nutrition supplies for malnourished children in the remote region of Farafangana, southeastern Madagascar. The consignment of Plumpy'Sup - a lifesaving supplement for children suffering from malnutrition, was delivered via an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) marking a milestone in the use of UAS technology to reach remote and isolated communities.

NAIROBI – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of US$5 million from the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to improve food security and build resilience for vulnerable communities in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions.

LILONGWE – Today the United Nations World Food Programme welcomed the generous contribution of US$ 1.75 million from the Government of Japan to address food insecurity, help vulnerable communities recover from natural disasters and enhance the local agricultural export capacity.

KAMPALA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of UGX2.5 billion (US$680,000) from the Government of Uganda to support Home-Grown School Feeding programmes in the Karamoja region of north-east Uganda.

PORT SUDAN/NAIROBI– The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a contribution of JPY 150 million (approx. US $1 million) from the Government of Japan for its operations in Sudan. This vital funding will enable WFP to purchase locally grown grains, such as sorghum or millet, which will be distributed to over 30,000 people as part of the emergency food rations.

ROME – The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) today launched an innovative financing initiative to boost funds available for governments to combat child malnutrition and expand school meals programmes.

Lusaka—The World Food Programme (WFP), with funding from the European Union (EU), has donated three Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs, also known as drones) to Zambia’s Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DDMU). GRENADA - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has supported Caribbean nations to ensure that climate insurance payouts triggered by category-5 Hurricane Beryl in July last year are used for social subsidies to get the most vulnerable back on their feet. The Governments of Grenada, Jamaica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will use a US$ 5.5 million portion of the payout to assist people affected by the tropical storm.

NAIROBI – The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), and the World Food Programme (WFP) have welcomed a contribution of EUR4 million from the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) to launch a joint project to protect vulnerable communities in the Greater Horn of Africa from the devastating impacts of climate extremes, conflict, and displacement.
