Hello…I’m looking for advice/opinions. My 2017 Macbook Pro is feeling sluggish with some things that I do (not always, but sometimes.) Examples of these minor tasks are:

Editing documents in Preview (while Zoom meeting is open)
Selecting other open tabs from the Tab Overview button in upper right of browser
Surfing the web

About my machine:
Specs:
13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports, Touchbar
Processor: 3.1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB
Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

Additional information: My desktop is empty…nothing on it. My hard drive has 623.52 GB available of 1 TB. Currently running Ventura 13.7.2

This sluggishness can happen on battery or plugged in…though I’m sure my battery is nearing it’s last days. It’s possible I’m expecting too much of my machine also. I am guilty of having 30-50 tabs open at any one time on Safari. If this made you laugh please tell me an acceptable # of tabs to have open. The tabs are sometimes FB marketplace (which I know can by itself corrupt the whole internet experience across other tabs….I hate FB but it’s a good source of finding used items.) I always have at least 3 Google Sheets tabs open. The rest vary but include Quora, Craigslist, eBay, Reddit, Amazon, etc.

In addition to the tabs the other applications open are usually:
Contacts
Calendar
Notes
Mail
Photos
Messages
Calculator
Activity Monitor
Preview
and sometimes Numbers or Zoom

Is this too many applications open? I feel like I have a decently powerful machine for the tasks I do, but I also know laptops become pretty lame at the 5 or 6 year mark.

Also, I just noticed my Macbook is too old to get the new OSX update. Should I be looking at something newer? Will a Macbook Air suit my needs, now that they are so powerful?

Thanks for any help!
