Apple today released the fourth beta of watchOS 11 to public beta testers, allowing non-developers to give the new features a try ahead of when the software launches this fall. The fifth beta comes a week after the fourth beta.

watchOS 11 can be downloaded after signing up on Apple's beta software website and upgrading your iPhone to the public beta version of iOS 18. You'll need to open up the Watch app on iPhone, go to General, select Software Update, and choose the watchOS 11 Public Beta option under Beta Updates.

With watchOS 11, Apple added a new Vitals app that can be used to give you a daily overview of your health metrics, letting you know if anything is out of the ordinary. It compares information collected at night like heart rate, sleep, respiratory rate, and oxygen level to your levels over the previous weeks.

Smart Stack has new widgets like Translate and Shazam, plus it's smarter because it is able to suggest widgets based on time, date, location, and daily routine. Interactive widgets let you access app features from the Smart Stack, and it also supports Live Activities.

Training Load is a new way of measuring how the intensity and duration of workouts impact the body over time, with Apple providing an effort level for cardio-based workouts to help you know when to rest and when to push harder.

You can now customize your Activity Ring requirements for different days of the week, and Apple added support for rest days. Taking a break from activity will no longer ruin a streak because you can pause for a day, a week, a month, or more.

Other new features include more workout types, Check In for Messages, a revamped Photos watch face, improvements to Double Tap, and more, with additional information available in our watchOS 11 roundup.

PSA Remember that if you install the public beta on your Watch you cannot back out like you can on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You’re stuck if you have issues.

I've switched to the Garmin Vu 3 and have been pretty happy with it, including the ability to create your own watch faces. I was surprised that the Garmin did a lot of things better than Apple watch, particularly sleep analysis and has features like Apple Pay and Find My Phone. I get about 4 days of battery life and because it doesn't use wireless charging, it charges incredibly fast.

I put my watch on at 7am and by the time I go to bed at 10pm the battery is pretty much dead. How do people track anything overnight?

I put my watch on its charger when I come back at home in the evening.

I start my day with ~80% battery which is usually enough.

It's quite simple. I wake up in the morning - the watch is never flat, because with the schedule the watch warns about low battery before going to bed. The watch charges to 100% or almost 100%, while I make coffee and other morning duties. It lasts the rest of the day without any problems. Sometimes I charge it for another 15 minutes if I plan on a longer workout. Before going to bed I put it on the charger, have a shower, eat something, put on the watch and go to sleep. Would it be better if my Series 7 lasted longer? It would, because poor GSM in the field really drained the battery, but I still have to take a shower or read the morning newspaper, and whether I have the watch on at that time doesn't make the slightest difference to me.

Come on those who gave a thumbs down. Get your thumb out of your you know what. It was funny and maybe a little serious. my wife and i may or may not have looked at my heart rate after “talking“ before sleeping at night.
Could you please specify how "Come on" is meant to be interpreted in your sentence. Thanks!

Do you have the display set to always on? I have mine set to only turn on when I look at it, since it didn’t make any sense to me to have it lit up if I can’t see it.

I am on Apple Watch 7 45mm. I don’t like sleeping with it so I take it off and put it on the charger before I go to sleep. As soon as I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is put on my watch. After a full day when I am ready to sleep again, my watch is at 65-75% remaining battery, every single day… and my watch is 2 years old at this point. There have been times where I was so tired that I fell asleep with it on and still made if through the next day. I am guessing my experience varies from others due to the fact that they may prefer always on display? Or perhaps the cellular models do not last as long (I have the GPS model)?

Anyway most people I have heard that track at night, usually charge when they are in the bathroom taking a shower and a #2. Others I have heard charge it commuting to and from work.

The thing is, even if the Apple Watch had 5 day battery life… at some point you’ll have to charge it during the day if you want sleep metrics to be accurate. The data would be thrown off if you wore it 4 days while you slept and then the 5th day you charged overnight.

So find a good spot during the day where you arent active, and charge. Regardless of the brand and model and company, they all have the same issue, unless you find yourself a battery that lasts a lifetime.

My Ultra 2 was acquired before the legal issue broke some functionality. Every Apple Watch made since that legal issue event is crippled.I expect these new versions to lack that banned function as well.

I have definitely checked my heart rate afterwards.
