With the launch of the iPhone 12 lineup, Apple now offers more size options than ever when buying an iPhone. We've previously posted size comparisons between leaked iPhone 12 dummy models vs a variety of other iPhone models. Now that the iPhone 12 has been officially released, we have revisited these size comparison graphics and found that the dummy models were right on the mark.

iPhone SE vs iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone 7/8/SE 2 vs iPhone X/XS/11 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 11 vs iPhone 11 Pro Max / XS Max / 7 Plus / 8 Plus vs iPhone 12 Pro Max

This graphic shows the relative sizes of all the iPhones from the iPhone SE to present. The iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 / Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max sizes fit nicely between the existing models.

Note, we took some small liberties for the interest of comparisons. For the iPhone 11 Pro Max image, the back camera setup does not accurately represent the XS Max, 7 Plus and 8 Plus cameras, but the overall sizes of all these devices are near identical.

To see them at full width comparison, click to see the following image in full size:

In addition to physical size, you have to consider how things will appear on the screen itself. Due to the size difference, websites will render differently and information may be presented differently. Here are 3 screenshots of the same webpage rendered in each device. This was simulated in Xcode and scaled to fix the respective devices:

Apple reportedly believes the 6.1" iPhone 12 model at $799 will be the most popular selling iPhone with the iPhone 12 Mini being the second most popular. Many are happy with the return of a smaller iPhone. The iPhone 12 mini shares the same features as the iPhone 12, so you aren't missing out much when choosing between those models, though the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max do bring other improvements.

iPhone 12 Mini Size

For those wanting to see how big an iPhone 12 mini might look in your hand, we made this graphic that can be used from an existing iPhone. The image has been updated to reflect the final iPhone 12 mini release.

Simply, save the corresponding image on your iPhone to see. Left and right aligned images are provided.

iPhone 12 preorders begin this Friday. 6.1-inch models of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be available to pre-order Friday, October 16, while the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini and larger 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max open pre-orders on Friday, November 6.

Really Really Really peeved that I need to get a Max to get the best camera. What I really want is a mini with the Pro Max camera. Make the battery a little smaller, it's a compromise I'm willing to live with. (and I'm sure others are too)

The best camera is the one you have with you, and I'd rather not have that giant slab on me. I'd much prefer something that easily fits in any pocket.

Is just me or is the rear microphone microscopicly tiny on the new Pros?

I'm dreading upgrading to 12 Pro Max from X, but I'm not going to upgrade for another 3-4 years and thought I might as well go for the highest spec'd version, also for the first time that Gold colour is 😍.

I'm eagerly waiting that we get some reviewers with their test photos and videos, to see what the actual real world difference is between the Pro and the Pro Max.

Anyone else irritated that they made the 12 Pro Max slightly bigger than the 11 Pro Max?

The 11PM (which is what I have) is right at about the largest I want my phone to be. They really didn't need to increase the size even by a tiny bit.

I'm not due to upgrade for a long time but I'm worried that when the day comes it may be even larger!

Somebody at Apple finally said, "Let's make gold...gold again!"

I will say that in comparing these dimensions the physical screen (not body) width and height are important.

After having a 6S Plus and 7 Plus, my iPhone X had a “larger screen” at 5.8” than those phones (5.5” screens) but a narrower and taller screen. This meant that my keyboard is more compact and leads to more typing errors.

I guess I’ll be learning to use Reachability more since I’m upgrading to the Pro Max. The 12 Pro at 6.1” doesn’t feel like a real size upgrade over my X which feels small.

Super handy graphic. One nitpick though, the text under the older models is pretty hard to read on the white background. I think it would help to make it a few shades darker for those of us without perfect eyesight :)

I love the size and design of the 12 Mini! A worthy replacement for the SE1.

I may end up getting one to replace my SE1 if it dies. Although, I wish there was Touch ID.

Watching my children deal with Face ID, especially lately with masks, is really making me less likely to want to give up Touch ID.

Then the argument I think is the 12 Pro is close enough and still compact by comparison to the Pro Max and in the same size range of most recent products as the Mini is a return to a small form factor.

Apple also markets the Pro / Pro Max as Pro and all the photo video they can do. That said a true photo video person or even enthusiast wants a decently sized screen whether 6.1 or 6.7 to take, view, edit. The Mini I’m sure is still quite a good camera. Just not the best. And for those that want an excellent camera without massive size, the 12 Pro provides that.

People wanting the very best camera in the Mini size represents likely a small market segment.
