Hi, I have an issue with my MacBook Air. I decided to update my computer to Sequoia, and now, when I open Launchpad, the search function (cmd+space) or any other key combinations like cmd+w, cmd+e, cmd+t don’t work. I need to click anywhere on the screen with the mouse to restore the functionality of the cmd key. How can I fix this?

I'm having the exact same issue on a M2 MacBook Air, running Sequoia 15.2.

Normally cmd+space doesn't work when Launchpad is visible. Considering we need to click a second time to "properly dismiss" Launchpad, it seems like a bug was introduced that fails window management.

I unfortunately don't have any idea on how to fix it but maybe someone can work something out 😅

You can use escape to close Launchpad.

thanks for the tip but it doesn't also properly dismiss Launchpad as keyboard shortcuts still don't work until I select another window
Interesting. After dismissing Launchpad, nothing has "focus", not even the desktop.

that makes sense, focusing on "nothing" which doesn't support any keyboard shortcuts. Another interesting thing is when I dismiss Launchpad and then open and close the Notifications sidebar, Finder in Dock is highlighted and keyboard shortcuts still don't work. I tried right-clicking on Finder to reach the same state but everything worked.
