WINTER WEATHER ALERT: MONDAY

Maryland is preparing a major winter system, leading to snow and big impacts early this week.

Sunday will be cold and breezy, but it will be dry and a good day to prepare for tonight and tomorrow's snow. Cloud coverage will increase this afternoon ahead of the storm system.

Winter storm warnings have been posted for the entire state due to the threat of heavy snow and strong impacts.

Snow will begin falling across the Baltimore metro tonight close to midnight, and the snow will last throughout the day tomorrow. Some heavy snow could fall during the morning rush hour, so those who have to be on the road will need to drive cautiously.

Freezing rain cannot be ruled out, but the best chance of this happening will be for areas farther south of Baltimore. Precipitation will taper Monday night into early Tuesday morning.

With this next weather-maker, work and school closures are likely. Expect hazardous driving conditions and potential power outages. Air travelers may experience delays or cancelations.

Dry weather will return on Tuesday, but Tuesday through Thursday will be frigid days. Highs will reach the low to mid 30s, but each day will be windy.

By the weekend, highs will rise to the mid and upper 30s. Isolated snow showers are possible Friday night into Saturday morning.
