If you’re struggling to meet the student where they are, simply try a different approach. By implementing strategies such as creating UDL lesson plans, and offering multiple modalities and presentations of the material, it will be easier to engage students as a whole. Take it a step further and tailor each lesson to meet specific student needs by using a person centered, culturally responsive, and differentiated plan. In order to do this use a person centered and strengths-based approach. By using a student’s strengths, you can facilitate learning, by tailoring examples and lessons to a students cultural background, learning style, or interests, you ensure engagement and foster curiosity- both required for learning!

Share evidence from educational research that supports the benefits of flexible learning environments on student engagement and achievement.

As an educator I found the following methods effective: 1. Co-constructing the tasks with the students giving them the voice, choice and agency to demonstrate their learning through different formats like writing, art, presentations etc. 2. When we have a mixed bunch of learners there might be few who have mastered the concept soon and some may take time. As educators we should be prepared to give tasks to fast learners to further enrich their knowledge and at the same time if a student needs more time, they shouldn't feel rushed. Planning is the key. 3.Sharing best practices with other educators also helps.
