Which power producers are making the biggest strides in improving their emissions intensity? Our new analysis of the US power sector shows that while all 10 of the largest power companies are reducing emissions intensity, the pace and scale of change vary significantly. Some companies are cutting emissions per unit of electricity steadily, while others show sharp drops later in the decade, likely tied to major transitions such as coal plant retirements. • Constellation Energy maintains the lowest emissions intensity throughout, driven by its nuclear-heavy portfolio. • American Electric Power starts with the highest emissions intensity but improves significantly, reducing by around 40% by 2029. • Xcel Energy makes substantial progress, reflecting a shift away from coal toward cleaner energy sources. Lower emissions intensity is a crucial indicator of progress. Tracking these shifts using asset-based data helps investors and financial institutions assess detailed transition risks and opportunities. 💡 Explore the full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/ebJxu53z

Many data providers use broad models and averages that fail to reflect the true emissions profiles of individual companies. These shortcuts not only distort risks but also mask opportunities, leaving investors in the dark. There’s a better way. Asset-based data provides the transparency, granularity, and consistency needed to accurately assess risks, meet reporting requirements, and identify leaders. Last week the team was at the CFA Society New York’s Sustainable Investing Symposium, to discuss the evolving landscape of financed emissions reporting. Matthew Handford moderated a panel of experts: Jamie Lee Mattison, Emma Sabiiti, CFA, CAIA, CFP, Sarah Wilson, and our own Paul Vozzella. Paul shared three of his takeaways from the discussion: 1️⃣ Measuring emissions is a crucial first step for investors looking to reduce their financed emissions. But accuracy remains a challenge, as attribution factors shift with market conditions and company valuations. Physical emissions intensity tends to provide a more stable measure, but understanding year-over-year changes is essential to assess real progress. 3️⃣ Financed emissions reporting should do more than quantify emissions linked to lending and investment—it should also reveal how financial decisions accelerate or slow corporate decarbonization. Metrics alone aren’t enough; they need to be supported by frameworks that drive meaningful, responsible action. 3️⃣ Regulation is catching up. As emissions data becomes more embedded in regulatory reporting, expect more scrutiny, standardized auditing, and greater adoption of emissions tracking across financial institutions. A very big thank you to CFA New York for hosting an brilliant discussion and to the panelists for sharing their expertise. 📸 : CFA New York

    CFO at GRESB

After an incredible journey at Unmind I’m excited to share that I am stepping into a new role as CFO of GRESB an organisation at the heart of driving positive change in the environment and sustainability sectors. Three months ago, I had the privilege of meeting the Prince of the Netherlands, Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau van oranje-nassau a significant figure in the Dutch start-up ecosystem. That meeting felt like a sign… While I’ll still be catching the Eurostar, this time it will be heading to the Netherlands rather than London! A heartfelt thank you to General Atlantic who have trusted and supported me throughout my journey, starting from my time at Doctolib. I look forward to impactful collaborations with Rhea Hamilton, Sebastien Roussotte and all GRESB team!
