“HepaRG cells generated physiologically-relevant concentrations of each metabolite,” say Alaa Al Dajani and Tony KL Kiang from the University of Alberta in their latest study on the sulfonation and glucuronidation of uremic compounds. Their innovative work led to the development of a novel assay to quantify key uremic metabolites, such as p-cresol sulfate and indoxyl sulfate, using HepaRG cells. The findings underline the value of HepaRG cells in producing clinically relevant concentrations of these metabolites.
