C o n s t r u c t i o n  P r o g r e s s The 24-meter-span timber trusses for the roof of the Saint Sauveur gymnasium in Lille, France, have just arrived on site! The project, developed on three levels, helps augment the district's image through its concave curved roofs and bright metallic corrugated envelope. Large windows open into the various superimposed sports halls, creating a view of the city from the inside and a view of the sports areas from the outside. The first two levels are organised around a prefabricated concrete column and beam system on which prefabricated concrete floors are placed. The building is covered by a wooden roof with a layer of vegetation, perforated with windows to illuminate the interior. The project is made in collaboration with bureau face-b. C o m p l e t e d The Campus des Groues, for which we brought our expertise as Façade engineers to A26 Architectures and MBE, was delivered last month! This 10,000 m² building is entirely dedicated to work-study programs. Its façade is distinguished by sunshades made of aluminium tubes fixed to prefabricated concrete cladding. With an air permeability Q4Pa of 0.76 m³/m².h, it achieved unprecedented performance for this type of programme at the time of its design. Located in the immediate vicinity of the new RER E Nanterre Folies station, it benefits from a strategic location. #façade #engineering #france Photos: B+G

A w a r d Congratulations to Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA for being awarded the 2025 RIBA Royal Gold Medal. Their innovative and elegantly minimalist architecture redefines the concepts of space and transparency. Their work is characterised by a refined simplicity, featuring clean lines and a restrained material palette that promotes spatial clarity. They excel at using transparency and lightness, often incorporating extensive glass and delicate materials to create an environment of openness and fluidity. We had the privilege of collaborating with SANAA on several of their iconic projects, such as the EPFL Rolex-Learning Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Louvre Lens Museum in Lens, France, the Vitra VSL Factory in Weil am Rhein, Germany, La Samaritaine in Paris, France, the #Zollverein School of Management and Design in Essen, Germany, and the #NovartisCampus in Basel, Switzerland. Opportunities and Challenges of the Circular Economy in the Hessian Economy ’ on 19 February at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Frankfurt am Main. She will discuss the topic ‘Structures in the Tension Field of Circular Economy,’ focusing on how structural design can adapt to the principles of circular construction. The movement towards a circular economy in the construction industry is steadily growing, but practical implementation often falls short of ambitious strategies, such as the German Circular Economy Strategy and Hesse’s Raw Materials Strategy. How can we transform these concepts into reality? What challenges need to be addressed to establish circularity as the norm in the built environment? Experts from politics, science, and the construction industry will explore these and other critical questions. S e m i n a r Our colleagues Noel Kühn and Karen Preuschoff will be speaking at the 9 BSP Seminar, organized by Rothoblaas, taking place from 12 to 14 February at the Rotoblaas Headquarters in #Kurtatsch, #SouthTyrol. Their presentation ‘Timber meets Concrete – Detail connections and their challenges’ will explore the interface between timber and concrete, a critical point for load introduction that continuously presents new challenges. Noel and Karen will analyze this topic from multiple perspectives, showcasing how thoughtful detailing and collaboration can lead to elegant and efficient solutions. The BSP Seminar is designed for structural engineers, contractors, and architects from the DACH region looking to expand their expertise in timber construction. It gathers experts to examine cutting-edge technologies, new business models, and the future of construction. F e a t u r e d The Claudine Hermann School Complex has recently been completed and is now featured on Divisare. Located in the #Greater #Paris region, the new complex consists of three single-story buildings seamlessly blending into the surrounding landscape, forming a gradual and porous urban boundary. The program is distributed across three volumes: the reception areas and after-school activity centre occupy the northern part of the site, the school restaurant is positioned to the west, and the kindergarten and elementary school are situated to the south. Shared spaces—including the recreation centre, restaurant, courtyard, and main lobby—are unified under expansive zinc-coated glued-laminated #timber roofing. The façades are constructed from tinted concrete and sandblasted after casting, while the interior walls feature concrete blocks. We were responsible for #structural #engineering, supporting the teams at SAM Architecture.

E x h i b i t i o n  From 29 January to 25 May 2025, Louvre Abu Dhabi will host the temporary exhibition “Kings and Queens of Africa: Forms and Figures of Power”, co-organised with the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Louvre Abu Dhabi and France Muséums. This exhibition, which showcases over 350 works across 1,400 m², marks the first presentation of its kind at such a scale in the United Arab Emirates. We were glad to support the teams by bringing our expertise in structural engineering. Beyond technical challenges, we are always keen to engage with #scenographic projects, even from an engineering perspective, and are delighted to contribute to Art through our work. #Engineering #Structure #Art #UAE
