It’s World Sustainable Transport Day! 🚲🚆🚶⛵️ Today, just like every day, we at Bureau Veritas are working to support the maritime sector’s sustainability journey. One way we do this is by facilitating compliance with fuel consumption regulations, such as those issued by the EU and the International Maritime Organization. This allows for the collection of data that can be used to build a comprehensive overview of emissions in the shipping sector. That overview is the first step to developing suitable regulations that will spur the maritime industry further along its path to decarbonization. In addition, our Rules, notations, Approvals in Principal and Joint Development Projects aim to derisk the innovations and technologies that will facilitate the path to net zero. As part of this, we support the adoption of wind propulsion and alternative, lower-carbon fuels, as well as enhance intermodal transport connectivity through digitalization and our SMART notations. We were delighted to take part in the 2024 World Maritime Merchants Forum during Hong Kong Maritime Week. At the event held on Tuesday, Alexander Gregg-Smith, Senior Vice President Marine & Offshore Asia Pacific (APA) Zone, Country Chief Executive, China at Bureau Veritas Group, attended the launch of the ESG evaluation standard for shipping. The ESG evaluation standard aims to help shipping companies comprehensively and objectively assess their sustainability performance, and give investors, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders a tool to do the same. Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore helped shape this standard by collaborating with industry experts, scholars, and corporate representatives to ensure its scientific rigor and practical applicability. Under the theme of “Navigating the Cycles,” the Forum saw discussions on influencing factors from rapid decarbonization and digitalization to sluggish international trade – focusing on the new opportunities and challenges they bring. As part of the event, two BV representatives shared their expertise and insights with attendees: - Suba Sivandran, Director – Strategy, M&A and Advanced Services, participated in a panel discussion on decarbonization trajectories for the container shipping sector, in particular the evolving regulatory landscape. - CARLOS GUERRERO, Global Market Leader – Gas Carriers, gave a presentation on innovative technologies and challenges for LNG carriers. According to Carlos, “The shipping industry is facing significant challenges linked to decarbonization. LNG carriers are part of the solution, as they are very sophisticated ships that may be able to make use of innovative solutions. At Bureau Veritas, we are supporting the development of new technologies to enable the LNG carriers of tomorrow to pave the way to sustainability.” #ShapingaBetterMaritimeWorld #HongKongMaritimeWeek

⛵️ Bureau Veritas is pleased to announce that we have awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to OceanWings for its cutting-edge rigid tiltable wingsail technology. The innovative and enhanced system is specifically designed to be installed onboard vessels with either air draft limitations or port operation constraints. Its compact foldable wingsail allows for navigation in tight conditions. This AiP highlights the rich partnership between OceanWings and Bureau Veritas, which started with the successful development of Canopée, a pioneering hybrid industrial wind powered cargo ship. We look forward to continuing our productive collaboration in the coming years. Christophe Chauviere, Vice President – Southwest Europe, North Africa and Americas at Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, says, “The development of viable wind propulsion systems offers an exciting avenue to further support the maritime industry in its efforts to decarbonize.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e2KW69UE #ShapingaBetterMaritimeWorld #WindPropulsion capitant christophe George Andreadis Vassilios Dimoulas Christophe Chauviere Maximilien Basquin Stéphane Caradec Hubert Munier Maud Blanchard Ronald van der Sman Thomas Van Hoegaerden Kevin BASTARD Aude Leblanc

🌏 We were delighted to host the Shenzhen-Hong Kong clean energy supply chain workshop in Shenzhen today, in partnership with the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping. ⚡️ Focused on the clean energy supply chain, the workshop brought together around 140 international stakeholders from across the maritime industry. The participants exchanged insights on two clear pathways towards decarbonization in the sector: alternative fuels and electrification. 🚢 This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the drive to decarbonize the maritime ecosystem of the Greater Bay Area. Progress in the region has the potential to accelerate the global shipping industry’s transition to net zero. Suba Sivandran, Director - Strategy, M&A and Advanced Services, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, says, “Ambitions to decarbonize the maritime sector will be shaped by what is happening in China.
