The impact of climate change on earth's rotation and its implications for technology 🌍 Recent research reveals that the climate crisis is extending the length of our days. The melting of polar ice is causing a deceleration in Earth's rotation, which could potentially disrupt internet traffic, financial transactions, and GPS systems. The study indicates that the significant melting of polar ice is altering our planet’s shape, resulting in a lengthening of each day by milliseconds. Although this change may seem minor, it has substantial implications for technologies that depend on precise timekeeping, including the internet, financial markets, and navigation systems. Historically, the length of Earth's day has been extended due to the gravitational pull of the moon. However, contemporary human activities, especially the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, have accelerated this process. The redistribution of water is increasing the Earth's oblateness, further slowing its rotation. The research utilized advanced observational techniques and reconstructions to assess the impact of melting ice on day length. 🚨Hurricane Beryl breaks many weather records since 1690 🌪️🚨 Hurricane Beryl is a Category 5 hurricane on 2 July 2024, and is the strongest hurricane in the Caribbean for this time of year since at least 1850. In Addition, it is only the 4th strong hurricane to affect the Lesser Antilles and Jamaica since 1690 before August 1.
