    Dracula Technologies and CoolR Group Partner to Revolutionize Retail with Sustainable IoT Solutions ⚡   Valence, France, and Chantilly, VA, USA, December 18, 2024 − Dracula Technologies, a global leader in energy-harvesting solutions, and CoolR Group, a pioneering innovator in retail technology, have joined forces to transform the retail sector with sustainable IoT solutions. By integrating Dracula Technologies’ LAYER® OPV modules into CoolR’s cutting-edge VistaZ cameras, the two companies have created a sustainable hybrid solution that combines traditional batteries with innovative Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) technology. The integration of this innovative energy-harvesting solution is transforming inventory management by enabling real-time inventory insights.     ✴️ IoT’s path to lower emissions faces cost, challenges: Q&A from Dracula Technologies   As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to play a larger role in manufacturing and industry, vendors face additional challenges in costs and the logistical burden of shifting to alternative solutions and sustainability.    While transitioning to self-sustaining power sources, like energy-harvesting technologies, can lower emissions in IoT, cost efficiencies and maintaining production flows are critical. The balancing act then needs to be met to reduce environmental issues while maintaining efficiency and cost.    Jérôme Vernet, VP of sales at Dracula Technologies, sat down with GlobalSpec to discuss some of the challenges and trends happening in IoT manufacturing space as it seeks to lower emissions in industry.   • ⚪️ How Indoor Solar will Power the Internet of Things? According to a SciArticle, approximately 5 billion IoT devices are expected to be in operation by 2030. These sensors will be widely deployed, with 70% anticipated to be installed indoors, as noted by Marina Freitag, Professor of Energy at Newcastle University, UK.   Harvesting energy from indoor light presents a significant opportunity to power these devices sustainably, as alternatives to batteries and cables are crucial due to their impracticality and environmental impact. However, indoor light levels are significantly lower than outdoor light. For instance, a table lamp typically provides around 200 lux, compared to up to 10,000 lux from natural outdoor light. This highlights the need for technologies capable of generating energy even in low-light conditions.   Dracula Technologies' Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) cells address this challenge by efficiently harvesting visible light, which is the predominant component of indoor lighting, to provide sustainable power for IoT sensors. Our CTO, Sadok Ben Dkhil, PhD, delivered an inspiring presentation on how Dracula Technologies has successfully industrialised organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells and modules for indoor applications using inkjet printing technology. Sadok highlighted the surging demand for scalable, efficient, and versatile photovoltaic solutions tailored to meet the energy needs of billions of IoT devices in indoor environments. He also detailed how inkjet printing is revolutionising manufacturing processes, enabling the production of customisable, flexible, and high-performance OPV modules. These innovations are driving a new era of IoT devices that operate autonomously, free from the constraints of batteries or cables. With this cutting-edge technology, Dracula Technologies is giving sensor manufacturers unprecedented design freedom to create smarter, more sustainable devices. This event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with industry leaders and engage with #Coatema, whose expertise in Sheet-to-Sheet and Roll-to-Roll equipment has placed them at the forefront of innovation for over 20 years.
