Sister cities Rennes and Cork have recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of their twinning. This dynamic partnership fostered countless cultural exchanges and human connections. Building on their friendship, Cork, Rennes and the German city of Cologne launched the « Cities of Welcome » project, in order to offer concrete solutions to the challenges faced by migrants and the communities that host them. Officials and NGOs of the 3 cities gathered in Cork and developed ideas and best practices to answer these needs in a spirit of openness. The French Embassy joined the delegations to celebrate the success of the project and discuss the future of the relations between Rennes and Cork. Travelling between Cork and Paris will be easier in 2025! Secured during Ambassador Céline Place’s visit to Cork, Air France and Cork Airport announced this morning that Air France will commence daily seasonal service from Cork to Paris Charles de Gaulle one month early next year. Previously operating the service from the end of March through October, the French flag-carrier will commence operating the service early on March 3, 2025. This is great news for business, tourism, families – and all that makes us closest EU neighbors! 🇫🇷 🤝 🇮🇪
Air France has announced that it will commence its popular, daily seasonal service from Cork to Paris Charles de Gaulle early next year due to the high demand. Previously operating the service from the end of March through October, the French flag-carrier will commence operating the service early on March 3, 2025. Air France has operated to and from Cork Airport since 2018, providing a direct, daily service to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. The service provides excellent access to the French capital along with onward connectivity to 169 onward destinations across the wider Air France worldwide network. When combined with the destinations network of Transavia and KLM, Air France passengers from Cork can reach about 320 worldwide destinations across the globe. The earlier commencement of this key service follows positive engagement between Cork Airport and Air France. Tourism Ireland ranks France as the fourth-largest source market for inbound tourists to the island of Ireland. The greater Paris metropolitan area is home to an estimated 12 million people and the news will come as a welcome boost to the tourism industry across the South of Ireland. In 2023, over 387,000 French holidaymakers visited Ireland, spending an average of 9.7 nights in the country. * Announcing the earlier start date of Air France 2025 operations at Cork Airport, Jerome Salemi, General Manager of Air France-KLM (UK & Ireland), said: “After the success of the route last year, we wanted to make the extra effort to bring it back even earlier to give the Cork local community and businesses even more options to reach Paris and the rest of the world via our hub in Charles de Gaulle. We are pleased to have worked with Cork Airport on making this possible and hope to have more opportunities such as this is the future.” Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development and Communications at Cork Airport welcomed the announcement by Air France saying: “Next spring, Air France will commence a service to Paris Charles de Gaulle three times per week at the beginning of March - four weeks earlier than planned and from March 30, the service will operate daily. I’d like to thank Air France for this vote of confidence in Cork Airport and I’m confident that the direct services to Paris, along with the vast range of onward connections, will ensure the route performs well next summer.” #airline #paris #cork Niall MacCarthy Josselin LE GALL

Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland

Cork might (might !) be the Real Capital, but it for sure is a real economic powerhouse and the home of large French interests in Ireland. For my second visit in two months, I was privileged to meet with local leaders as diverse as their love for their city is strong. - I was first given a tour and met with the large French community working @Apple’ site – established 44 years ago and now employing shy of 6000 people - I then shared lunch with representatives of @Dassault Systèmes, Port of Cork Company Ltd. and Cork Chamber to identify the ways to further strengthen the growing Cork/France trade and business relationship - EirGrid Group then gave me a precise update on the ongoing construction of the Celtic Interconnector, a massive infrastructure project currently being delivered on time and on target, notably thanks to the great work done by French supplier Nexans who also has boots on the ground in Cork - I finally sat down with Dan Dan Boyle Lord Mayor of Cork for a discussion on Cork's development projects. Cork is a fast-growing city, and wants to remain welcoming for all and meet the needs of both residents and businesses. France has a lot to offer to support this agenda, and I will be back with more propositions. We also talked about the large array of cooperation between Cork and France: very lively twinning with the city of Rennes, strong French cultural presence with the Cork French Film Festival, rich university partnerships, lots happening with the Alliance Francaise de Cork All of this is supported by the great work of our honorary consul Josselin LE GALL and complemented by the ongoing commitment of French teachers in the region and many more projects. Together with Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí we highlighted this partnership in an award ceremony for the title of Chevalier des Palmes académiques for Valérie David-McGonnell President of the Board of Directors of Alliance française de Cork, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the promotion of the French language in Ireland. What a year it has been! From July to September, France welcomed the world to Paris, for the Olympic and the Paralympic Games. The French Embassy in Ireland celebrated this exceptional Olympic year, bringing together and paying tribute to all those who made it possible in Ireland : Olympic Federation of Ireland and Paralympics Ireland ; sponsors and other partners; members of An Garda Síochána deployed in France during the games, and many more partners and friends of the Embassy. Thank you to the Irish Olympic and Paralympic participants who joined us, (Kerrie Leonard PLY, Victoria Catterson OLY, Erin Riordan OLY), to the President of the Paralympic Federation Eimear Breathnach PLY, to the representatives of Team Ireland (Kevin Keane) and to the direction of Sport Ireland (Dr. Una May, Liam Harbison). Thank you also to the sailor Tom Dolan, winner of the Solitaire du Figaro, and to Rabah Slimani, French international and player for Leinster Rugby ! In Paris, for Team Ireland it was a historic edition of the games as they achieved a record medal haul. To this, Paralympic athletes added 6 medals. Many thanks to those who could come this evening and celebrate with us. For France, the Olympics were just a beginning. It allowed France to showcase its ability to lead integrated, complex and large-scale infrastructure projects, its capacity to innovate and create and its commitment to a low carbon footprint, sustainable buildings and reusable or recyclable materials. It also demonstrated France's cutting-edge transport infrastructure. And of course, it recalled the French talent for hospitality. Everything that made the games a success is here to stay and will keep growing to harness the momentum of the Olympic legacy. #MakeItIconic #ChooseFrance Ministère des Affaires étrangères français John Moran Mayor of Limerick France Ireland Chamber of Commerce Direction générale du Trésor Direction de la diplomatie économique

On November 11th, Armistice Day, Ambassador Céline Place paid homage to all those who lost their lives in World War One. The ceremony took place in Glasnevin Cemetery, in presence of representatives of the Irish Government and Defence Forces and the Embassies of Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Canada, the United States. France was also represented by the French Foreign Legion Veterans Association of Ireland and Cadets from the Ecole speciale militaire de Saint-Cyr.
