How do our teams work to protect biodiversity and promote local ecology? 🌱 As biodiversity is a safeguard against global warming, we strive to protect it in each of our projects. 📍 In France, we provide employees with a special guide to invasive plant species, tailored to specific regions and local regulations. This tool helps employees to identify and protect species on each site or worksite. As a result, the spread of invasive species and the associated costs are kept under control. We support our teams' initiatives and volunteer in a number of countries to support local associations, protect the environment and conserve biodiversity, such as cleaning up natural areas in Peru, protecting bees in the UK and reforestation efforts in Chile. During his visit to the Netherlands, Jérôme Stubler, CEO of Equans, highlights how geothermal energy is a key lever for decarbonising buildings. 🌱 Helping territories transition to a low-carbon and sustainable future is at the heart of our mission. Equans is driving smart city initiatives around the world. Here are three examples: 🇫🇷 Angers, France: In partnership with ENGIE, SUEZ, La Poste Groupe and the Groupe VYV since 2020, Equans is helping Angers become France's first 'smart territory'.The aim is to achieve 66% energy savings in public lighting, 20% less energy consumption in city buildings, 30% less water consumption and smoother traffic flows by 2025. 🇧🇪 Brussels, Belgium: In 2021, Equans equipped the Brussels Mobility Centre with advanced audiovisual solutions, improving traffic safety and fluidity by bringing together the teams of STIB and Brussels Mobility. 🇬🇧 Oldham, UK: Equans has built 19 eco-friendly homes with Primrose Bank for local families. Each home is equipped with Wi-Fi units to monitor energy consumption and optimise the use of renewable energy from solar panels and battery storage. How does Equans reduce its own carbon footprint? 🌱 While Equans helps clients decarbonise their operations, we are also committed to reducing our own carbon footprint. Our low carbon strategy is driven by four key focus areas: 1️⃣ Low carbon transport: Transitioning to electric vehicles, targeting 30% of our fleet by 2026 and 80% by 2030, while optimising routes with telematics and exploring HVO fuel for worksites. 2️⃣ Energy-efficient buildings: In France, we've reduced energy consumption by 12% since 2022 using our Carbon Building tool, which monitors and optimises the performance of 518 buildings. 3️⃣ Space optimisation: In Belgium, we have reduced our occupied space by 9,400m² by 2022 by regrouping sites and redesigning offices. 4️⃣ Green electricity: In the UK and the Netherlands, we're powering sites with certified electricity from renewables electricity and gradually replacing gas with heat pumps.
