Pursuing excellence in engineering, applied sciences and technology for the benefit of the citizens of Europe.

À propos

The European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering is an independent non-profit organisation of national academies of Engineering, Applied Sciences and Technology from 23 European countries. It was founded in 1992 upon French initiative by the members of CADAS (Conseil pour les Applications de l’Académie des Sciences). The Executive Committee meets four times a year. The Board meets once a year. Euro-CASE acts as a permanent forum for exchange and consultation between European Institutions, Industry and Research. Through its Member academies, Euro-CASE has access to top expertise (around 6,000 experts) and provides impartial, independent and balanced advice on technological issues with a clear European dimension to European Institutions, national Governments, companies and organisations.

🌍 New advice on solar radiation modification is now published! Scientists advise that solar radiation modification technologies cannot fully address #climatechange and responsible research into potential impacts is crucial. SRM techniques —like stratospheric aerosol injection or cloud brightening—are designed to reflect sunlight and reduce global warming, but the evidence highlights significant uncertainties and potential risks. The Group of Chief Scientific Advisors and the European Group on Ethics recommend prioritising emission reductions, announcing a Europe-wide moratorium on these technologies, and fostering ethical, transparent research. 📄 Read the full content of the publications here: https://lnkd.in/e3Q2jqGa

It's now out! European Commissioner on Health and Food Safety asked scientific advice on One Health Governance in European Union, The Council of Finnish Academies nominated me and I was chosen to the expert group to gather evidence and Chief Scientific Advisors gave their advice. Advice shortly: we need more integration in policies, structures, education, surveillance to reach the promise of One Health. One Health is the revolutionary idea that human health, non-human animal health, plant health and the health of the environment is all linked. Well, the idea is not revolutionary, but looking at the evidence, the operationalization clearly would be. The main takeaways from the evidence gathering were that both health researchers and policy-makers need to consider health broadly as human, other-than-human animal, plant and the health of our environment are strongly linked. Consequently, it is a complex work and the optimal outcomes are not easy to find. Nevertheless, it definitely requires a shift to less anthropocentric view and diversification of the ways that we measure cost-effectiveness. https://lnkd.in/dTM7dPhH Scientific Advice MechanismThe Council of Finnish AcademiesLeiden UniversityUniversity of Helsinki
