🌊 Wrapping up 2024 of #EuroMarine! 🌊 As the year comes to a close, we're proud to reflect on 2024—a year of celebration, transformation, and impactful contributions for the EuroMarine network. Here's what we achieved: 🎉 10th Anniversary: Celebrating a decade of advancing marine science with a renewed commitment through our new Consortium Agreement. 🔄 Transition in Leadership: A warm welcome to our new Coordination Team—Mark Costello, Simonetta, Irene Olivé, and Luis Lozano Gutiérrez—who are guiding EuroMarine into its next phase. 💶 Supporting Science: €80,000 allocated to innovative scientific proposals, including: • 3 Foresight Workshops • 1 Summer School • A new support tool for young parents balancing science and family 🌟 Empowering #ECRs: Through the OYSTER network, we funded 2 ECR research projects and 20 training mobility fellowships. 📈 Impact through Working Groups: Our MBON and TransOcean groups continued their excellent work, representing EuroMarine and advancing key projects. 🤝 Growing the #Network: Welcoming 6 new members from both the public and private sectors, strengthening our community for the future. 🌊 Exciting #PhD Opportunity: Investigating Nitrogen Fixation in the Indian Ocean 🌊 The EXPAND project, funded by the #ERC, is offering a unique #PhD opportunity to explore the role of top-down controls (such as grazing and species interactions) on nitrogen fixation in the Indian Ocean — one of the least explored ocean basins. The selected candidate will participate in two oceanographic expeditions aboard the Research Vessel Marion Dufresne, using state-of-the-art techniques like nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (nanoSIMS) and molecular analyses. 🌊 Exciting PhD Opportunity: Investigating Nitrogen Fixation in #Polar Oceans 🌍 The University of #Southampton and the National Oceanography Centre are offering a #PhD project to investigate nitrogen fixation in the Arctic and Antarctic oceans. This research will explore how nitrogen-fixing microbes contribute to polar ecosystems in a warming world. The successful candidate will employ advanced bioinformatics, isotopic techniques, and oceanographic data to study the role of nitrogen fixation in supporting primary productivity in polar waters.
