Please check out on this wonderful study, executed by Paul Lecroart, senior (and maybe one of Europe's best) urbanists. It enatils a comparative study on examples of changing car-oriented roads and streets into enjoyable urban spaces for all, with or without cars. The comparison gives insight in what can be done, what obstacles are found but of course mainly what opportunities there are: liveable spaces, huge environmental benefits, economic re-growth around those places, etc etc. Please contact us to see what casn be done in your city, town or village! https://lnkd.in/euKgy8N5

As we approach the end of 2024, it’s a moment to reflect on the challenges we’ve faced and the progress we’ve made. These times continue to test us, but they also remind us of the importance of adapting, staying resilient, and always moving forward. In the end, that’s what truly matters—continuing to grow, improve, and make a difference. In my roles as Director of the Bucharest Metropolitan Area Intercommunity Development Association (ADIZMB) and Vice President of METREX, I’ve seen how collaboration and shared dedication can drive meaningful change. Together with our partners, we’ve worked toward building stronger, more inclusive communities that support people’s daily lives. As we celebrate the holidays, let’s hold onto the hope and determination that inspire us to overcome challenges and work toward a brighter future. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and a New Year filled with inspiration, success, and happiness! #ADIZMB #METREX #Leadership #Community #Sustainability #Resilience #HappyNewYear2025 Asociatia de Dezvoltare Intercomunitara Zona Metropolitana Bucuresti (ADIZMB) METREX - The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas

Absolutely! The journey from #METREX Nurnberg conference on From Farm to Fork (2021) to #Wrocław's first-ever urban food policy underscores the transformative power of city networks like METREX - The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas and ICLEI Europe These networks provide the tools, platforms, and collaborative frameworks that enable cities to tackle urgent challenges like climate resilience and food security head-on. Wrocław’s leap into urban food policymaking highlights how guidance from these networks can drive impactful, localized action. By leveraging the shared knowledge and resources of METREX and ICLEI, Wrocław is not just reacting to challenges—it’s proactively building a framework for resilience. The alignment with the EU’s #FarmtoForkstrategy further solidifies its role as a model city for sustainable food systems. What’s particularly inspiring is how networks like these foster #peerlearning, where cities share both successes and lessons learned, creating a ripple effect of innovation. It shows that local action, supported by global and regional collaboration, can become a powerful force for systemic change. Do you think initiatives like Wrocław’s could influence other Polish or EU cities to follow suit? Or could this potentially lead to broader legislative changes across the region? Join the learning and ongoing conversation! The SAH Expert Group continues its journey towards new approaches to achieving sustainable and affordable housing in metropolitan regions and areas. Yesterday we focused on the Helsinki Region to explore #Affordable #intermediate #housing for #socially #sustainable neighbourhoods. Highlighting the sense of urgency to address the growing demand for flexible and more affordable housing solutions seeking social stability, sustainability and territorial inclusion, the meeting pointed out the need for a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to urban/territorial regeneration and development. Innovative and cooperative thinking need to be applied to housing policies, land policies and land-use planning combined with financial instruments, coming together to create the conditions for housing affordability. A report will be available soon. The Webinar was organised by Senior Specialist Miliza Ryöti, PhD., Helsingin seudun ympäristöpalvelut HSY and Regional Planning Architect Eija Hasu, D.Sc. (Tech), Uudenmaan liitto and introduced by SAH coordinator Claudia Murray with contributions from Liisa Perjo (Demos Helsinki), Elina Eskelä (Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki), Elisa Ranta (Vantaan kaupunki - Vanda stad - City of Vantaa). A heartfelt thanks for their valuable contribution, time and dedication! Finally, thanks to all the participants! The Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam #MRA, hosted by its member municipality of Zaanstad, played a significant role in co-organising European Metropolitan Authorities (#EMA) Forum, which took place on November 20 and 21, 2024. This international gathering of European mayors and representatives from metropolitan regions focused this year on the theme of Broad Prosperity. Focus on Broad Prosperity The conference explored how metropolitan regions can contribute to broad prosperity—a concept that seeks to balance economic progress, social well-being, and ecological sustainability. This approach looks beyond short-term economic goals, considering the impact on future generations and the global community. The well-being perspective was discussed as a tool for the European Union and urban regions to make informed choices for a sustainable future. At this successful EMA Forum 2024 in Zaanstad, 20 & 21 November the EMA Declaration was signed by METREX' Secretary-General Henk Bouwman.
