⚡ New blog post on #EnergySufficiency While #EnergyEfficiency and #Renewables often dominate efforts to meet the #ParisAgreement targets, energy sufficiency is increasingly being recognised as a critical part of the solution. Our latest blog post explores the concept of sufficiency, which addresses overconsumption and inequality by reducing energy demand while ensuring well-being within planetary boundaries, following the launch of the World Sufficiency Lab's web platform earlier this year. Led by Yamina Saheb and David Ness, their ambition is to foster a global community championing sufficiency-first approaches in policy and business across key sectors such as: 🏠 Urban Planning: Retrofitting buildings, repurposing infrastructure, and prioritising equitable urban design 🚍 Mobility: Reducing transport demand with demand-side solutions and social equity considerations 👗 Fashion: Addressing overproduction and overconsumption in the textile industry for meaningful carbon reductions 🖥️ Digital Technology: Promoting repairability, device longevity, and resource efficiency to curb environmental impacts The blog post also showcases global case studies from France, Australia, South Korea, and beyond, offering real-world examples of energy sufficiency in action. Seeking to advance research on policies for sustainable development and climate transition at Sciences Po, Paris.
À propos
The Chair’s mission is to drive education, innovation, and public discourse in the development of sustainable policies and climate transition, both within Europe and globally. We are dedicated to addressing critical challenges such as decarbonization, climate change adaptation, implementing the energy transition, green finance and minimising environmental risks. Our ultimate goal is to support the European Green Deal’s ambitious objectives. Our work centers on facilitating social and environmental transitions. We focus on analysing the content and governance of policies, partnerships, and actions needed to create transformative pathways for regions and cities. Our aim is to strike a balance between economic growth, social progress, and environmental protection. We are committed to establishing a broad network of actors who will contribute to research, education, and discussions on important topics such as regional well-being, just transition, climate mitigation and adaptation, energy transition, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Our approach embraces various perspectives, including economic, sociological and technological, overcoming traditional disciplinary boundaries. Hosted at the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) and the School of Public Affairs, the Chair is governed by two committees with the help of a team. The Chair is funded by: Hermès International, HSBC and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

📢 New publication on #GreenHydrogen! We're pleased to present a new study, authored by our Chairholder Marc Ringel, Gerrit Stockigt, Hawal Shamon, and "Vögele Stefan", recently published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. This research addresses a critical yet under-explored aspect of the EU's #decarbonisation strategy: local acceptance of green hydrogen projects in potential production hubs like #Egypt, emphasising the necessity of aligning such initiatives with local priorities and perspectives to foster sustainable collaboration between the EU and other countries. Highlights from the study: 🔹 Local populations in Suez and Port Said demonstrate broad support for renewable energy development and green hydrogen production, including for export to Europe 🔹 The most significant motivator is rising income, emphasising the importance of economic gains for local communities 🔹 Secondary benefits, such as improved trade and political relationships with Europe, are recognised but considered less central to cooperation 🔹 Findings highlight the importance of focusing on local benefits to ensure successful project development and partnerships 📖 Read the open-access article here >> https://lnkd.in/eDcPb4hd #GreenHydrogen #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #EUClimatePolicy #RenewableEnergy

📢 New publication on the Governance Regulation - the central coordination instrument for the EU's energy and climate policy We are happy to share the results of this study, led by Nils Bruch, Michèle Knodt, and our Chairholder Marc Ringel. Their paper reviews institutional stakeholder feedback and discusses potential updates to the Governance Regulation, as it is scheduled for revision due to currently being misaligned with the updated EU framework. Highlights: 🔹 Broad support among stakeholders for revising the regulation to improve policy implementation 🔹 Public Authorities show reluctance towards more binding elements, but support clearer enforcement mechanisms 🔹 Non-public stakeholders advocate for stronger national obligations and greater public participation 🔹 Potential of "harder soft governance" to strengthen the EU’s energy and climate framework Read the open access article available here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eatBCBD9 #EUClimatePolicy #EnergyTransition #Governance #Sustainability #ClimateAction
