Last week, Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks launched the first ever Truck Safe rating, marking a significant milestone in heavy goods vehicle safety. As a member of Euro NCAP, the FIA emphasised the importance of this new rating and the need to foster synergies across road safety programmes — including with the FIA Road Safety Index — to support companies in making roads safer for all. Last week, we were at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan!   It was the second time the FIA has attended as an Observer to the UNFCCC - and the very first time that we’d presented at a Ministerial Global Roundtable.   Our Sustainability Champion, David Garrido, explains more:

Today, on World Sustainable Transport Day, the FIA was proud to participate in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs's UN Decade of Sustainable Transport Multi-Stakeholder Webinar, aligning with global leaders to shape a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient transport future.   FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasised the significance of this collaboration, stating: "Sustainable transport is at the heart of the global effort to combat climate change and foster social inclusivity. The FIA remains committed to working with the UN and other stakeholders to ensure that transport solutions drive us toward a greener, safer, and more accessible future for all."   Representing the FIA, Habib T., Chief Development Officer, shared his insights on how motorsport serves as a global sustainability laboratory: "Motorsport is not only a proving ground for innovation but also a catalyst for sustainability in transport. Through technology, competition, and global cooperation, the FIA is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between mobility, sport, and sustainable development." Senior Sustainability Manager Asuka Ito attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Senseable City Lab Forum on Future Cities in Boston last week. She was there to present an FIA and Senseable City Lab joint project, focused on mobility patterns around mega-events. FIA Chief Development Officer Habib T. has been actively strengthening the FIA’s relationship with China, acknowledging its key role in the global mobility landscape. Over the past two months, Habib spoke at the World Intelligent Connected Vehicle (WICV) summit in Beijing, and the China Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (Geneva) internationalisation Centre Forum in Geneva, where he showcased the FIA’s vision for a safe, sustainable, inclusive mobility transition. The events also gave him the opportunity to meet with industry leaders, discuss the future of ICVs, and highlight the need for unified legal frameworks and global standards to drive mobility innovation and sustainability forward.
