🇬🇲 New project supported by FID: an innovative postal address system to improve waste collection and increase tax revenues in the Gambia. In The Gambia, the postal address system has shortcomings that could limit access to essential public services. In Kanifing, many households still lack access to regular waste collection services and property tax compliance is limited. To address these challenges, a research team from the University of Essex in partnership with Kanifing Municipal Council, is implementing an innovative solution using Plus Codes - an open source address system based on GPS coordinates. 📆 From February 2024 to February 2026, this FID-funded project will focus on 2 key objectives: 🚚 Optimise waste collection routes using GPS-enabled trucks to better serve disadvantaged neighbourhoods. 🗺️ Create maps of property tax non-compliance to guide targeted enforcement actions. The goal: to strengthen the social contract between the municipality and its residents by linking public revenues to improve access to essential services, particularly for marginalised communities. ➡️ Learn more about this project: https://lnkd.in/eaSXN2vc cc Victor Pouliquen
