Incredible Breakthrough in Gene Therapy Restores Hearing for Deaf British Girl !  Opal Sandy, a British girl born deaf can now hear after undergoing ground-breaking gene therapy treatment. Started shortly before her first birthday, this revolutionary treatment allowed doctors to replace in her DNA the faulty genes responsible for her deafness.  Six months on, Opal can hear sounds as soft as a whisper and is starting to talk. Opal took part in a clinical trial that recruited patients from the UK, the US, and Spain.
