Founder mental health – a topic close to our heart. 🙏💚 This Mental Health Day, CEO Niklas shared his thoughts on the challenges founders face and why prioritizing mental well-being is more important than ever. 👇 Not just Niklas, but our co-founders Sofia and Sérgio are season founders of their own ventures. We’d love to hear your perspectives—how do you navigate mental health as founders? This year’s theme, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” resonates deeply with us at Oyama. We believe that mental well-being is at the core of personal and organizational success. 💡 So, we want to open this up to you—our customers and community: How do you maintain mental health in your company? Let’s start the conversation and share strategies that help us all grow, thrive, and support each other. #MentalHealthMatters #FounderMentalHealth #WorkplaceWellbeing #Oyama #EmotionalIntelligence #Resilience Ville Stephanie Sandra Vilma Veera Topias Nici Sanna Tarmo Emilia Hanna Aliisa
Building startups is hard. Freakin’ hard. Do you agree? ⬇ How about being a founder? As I approach my 10-year anniversary as a startup founder, I want to take this year’s World Mental Health Day 💚 to bring attention to a topic close to my heart: founder mental health. A short recap of my entrepreneurial journey: • 2012: In high school, my friend Axel and I applied and secured a grant of €5000. We rebuilt the school gym. • 2015: I started my first company, Mental Link, a marketplace to match people with a psychotherapist. • 2017: I joined Kaiku Health (later acquired by Elekta) as the first hire in Sweden. Got to work closely with the serial entrepreneurs Lauri, Henri. • 2019: I founded Oyama and released a mental health app during the pandemic. Backed by founders Topias and Timo. • 2021: I started Firebird Advisory, my consulting company, currently working with resilient veterans Mika and Tarmo at Siffi and the superwomen Sanna and Henna at Nuanic. • 2024: We announced Oyama’s pivot and launched our second-gen product. Still on this journey with fellow entrepreneurs Sofia and Sérgio. Alongside my ventures, I’ve been fortunate to support fellow entrepreneurs and help build new businesses. For the past decade, I’ve lived and breathed startups. Here’s what I’ve learned about founder mental health: 1. Behind every company is a tenacious entrepreneur who, at times, struggles with their mental health. 2. It’s a constant challenge to balance startup work, life and well-being. 3. Do founders talk about it? Rarely. Some year's ago, we discussed the concept of a “founder wall” in Startup Foundations article by Verneri Välimaa. Should we talk about it? Hell yes. Why? Because by addressing it, we can focus better on our work and create a culture where mental health is seen as a driver of productivity.
