Earlier this week, UNESCO convened the International Forum on the Futures of Education from 2-4 December in #Suwon, #Gyeonggido, Republic of #Korea, which aimed to renew the Social Contract for Education. Hilligje van't Land, IAU's Secretary General, participated in the discussions and was invited as a speaker to the workshop on “Futures of Higher Education” next to H.E. Mr Seringe Mbaye Thaim, former Minister for Higher Education of Senegal and member of UNESCO’s International Commission on the Futures of Education; Buhm Soon Park, Professor and Director of Center for Anthropocene Studies at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); Sofía Bermúdez, Founder and Director of One Generation and member of the UNESCO SDG 4 Youth & Student Network; which was moderated by Ms Bosen Lily Liu, UNESCO IESALC Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms Farida Shaheed, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, opened the discussion. 💬 “During the conference, we discussed how a new social contract is needed; what futures of Education to envisage; and what national and international perspectives to compare,” says Hilligje van't Land. This year's forum was an opportunity for Member States and the international community to gather around issues and opportunities related to the #FutureofEducation, and to rethink the role of education in shaping sustainable and just futures. ➡️ To learn more about the forum, visit the website here: https://lnkd.in/g6caTWiH #UNESCO #IAU #HigherEducation #Education #FuturesofEducation #Korea #UN #HEIs

🌟Announcing the Launch of the latest IAU Report on Open Science: The Challenge for Universities 🌟 Last year, following the IAU's Policy Statement: Transforming Higher Education in a Digital World for the Global Common Good, we called on universities and experts to play an important role in shaping the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science across the different countries of the world. As a result, the International Association of Universities (IAU) convened an international #ExpertGroup on Open Science to bring expertise and knowledge together and share experiences about how universities can contribute to the implementation of the norms and principles laid out in the UNESCO Recommendation. 📚Today, we have the immense pleasure of launching the new #OpenScience report, which discusses the opportunities and challenges ahead of universities in the shift toward #OpenScience. This document contributes to the overall purpose of Open Science as a way to foster transparent, collaborative, and inclusive scientific practices to make new knowledge more accessible and verifiable; to ensure more equitable access to science and knowledge, and to enhance international research collaboration. 📖The report brings 22 experts and great minds in the so-called field of digital transformation to develop recommendations on potential actions that can support institutions in their complex transition towards Open Science by sharing their best practices and experiences, and identifying what type of research, evidence, and data collection can serve universities. ➡️ To learn more about the Open Science, please visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eZMgD2V6 ➡️ To access the full report, please visit here: #OpenScience #Publication #Report #Universities #KnowledgeforAll #Knowledge #Education #HEI #Challenge4Universities

👏 The IAU Executive Leadership Programme 2024-2025 has begun! Yesterday, we welcomed Dr. Fanta Aw, CEO of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and Patrick Deane, Principal and Vice Chancellor of Queen's University, Canada, to lead Module 1: The Changing Mission of Universities. This module opened a broad conversation about the role of higher education institutions in our societies today that we will continue over the course of this year long programme. Today, we are meeting again at Sophia University for Module 2: Charting a Sustainable Future for Higher Education and Module 3: Building Partnerships Across the Global Higher Education Landscape. Module 2, led by Teri Balser, Immediate Past Provost and Vice President of the University of Calgary, addresses what it means to be an environmentally, socially, and financially sustainable institution. The module questions how these aspects of sustainability interact, and participants are discussing the role of university leadership in establishing authentic sustainability at the institution. Later today, we will hear from Prof. Tawana Kupe, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Pretoria , and participants will consider how to craft transformative and value-based global partnerships. Welcome to the ELP, cohort 2024-2025!
