✨ Wrap-up of the successful 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐔-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬! 📄 Elles van de Ven, Policy Officer within the Unit “Microelectronics and Photonics” at the European Commission had the mission to close this one-day workshop. She emphasized the European Union's strong interest in the topics discussed throughout the day and highlighted the opportunity for collaboration with India across various fields. She also invited Sagar Sharma, Chief of Staff at the India Semiconductor Mission, to give a few words on what this workshop brought to the Indian perspective. Mr Sagar Sharma described the event as insightful and valuable for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the European semiconductor ecosystem before pursuing further cooperation. He emphasized the country's ambition to leverage international partnerships in building a resilient, diversified, trusted, and sustainable semiconductor industry 💡 Overall, this workshop marked a significant step forward in advancing semiconductor cooperation between India and the EU. In addition to providing the latest updates on current technologies, it facilitated valuable exchanges between researchers and policy makers on the future of this strategic industry, laying the foundation for deeper collaboration. 🔗 The presentations of the 4th Session – IC & System Design - of the 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐔-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 are now available! This session welcomed the following experts: 💻 "IC and System Design - The quantum way" presented by Kamakoti Veezhinathan, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, emphasised, in particular, that the complexity of Integrated Circuit (IC) has increased exponentially, posing challenges to circuit design's scalability and reliability. But also that Electronic Design Automation (EDA) algorithms and software must be more effective and efficient to handle a large search space with low runtime. Quantum Computing from point of view of EDA, IC and System Design complexity have to be re-defined and thus achieved. 💻"AI-enabled smart and secure electronic systems design and Indigenous Electronic Design Automation Tools for VIKSHIT BHARAT 2047" by Gaurav Trivedi from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati summarized the ongoing activities in chip design, electronic design automation, and advanced workforce development needed to achieve the goal 💻"The Open-Source PULP Platform for tinyML Heterogeneous Hardware Acceleration" is a talk from Francesco Conti, University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna) which showed how the open-source cooperative model makes it possible to combine different ideas and contributions in a technologically portable way, acting as an innovation catalyst and enabling the fast pace of evolution required to keep up with new ideas in AI within a tiny power budget. 💻"Digital system design at IIT Bombay" by Madhav Desai, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay described the research carried out by his group in to tools and system realizations. The focus of the tools related work is to establish an algorithm to System-on-chip flow for the rapid realization of custom optimized embedded systems. 💫 Session 3 of the 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐔-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 - Sustainable Manufacturing and Materials This session presented the current challenges of the semiconductors industry and potentials solutions to address it. The speakers discussed the limits of Moore's Law and outlined their vision of the future of technology. ♻ Pascal Xavier from CROMA / Grenoble INP - UGA presented a talk on "Bio-based materials and processes for pcbs: an example of pathway for sustainable micro-nanoelectronics?" in which he gave an overview of some promising and original technological avenues in the field of printed circuits from the point of view of materials, manufacturing and recycling processes. ♻Prof. Rajeev Ahuja from Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar provided a comprehensive analysis on "Advanced Materials for next-generation Semiconductor technology" and talked about the most recent studies in the area of materials science with focus on Semiconductor technology. ♻Olivier Faynot, CEA-Leti with his talk on "Towards Sustainable electronic Challenges of Sustainability" presented the challenges around rare earth materials including the management of electricity and water in the Semiconductors Industry and on-going actions to tackle it. ♻Jean-Pierre Raskin from UCLouvain - Université catholique de Louvain had a presentation on "Sustainability in information and communication technologies" and question the merits of certain technological choices made in the name of the transition while giving concrete examples of current research, such as a critical look at the deployment of connected objects, the eco-design of sensors All the presentions are available here: https://lnkd.in/enePAC9k

🔬✨ Sum up of Session 2 "More than Moore Functionalities" from the 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐔-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬! 🚀 This session, entitled ‘More than Moore Functionalities’, highlighted the knowledges and competences of each side in the subject ✅ Bijoy Krishna Das, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras presented "Silicon Photonics Technology at CoE-CPPICS" and discussed the state-of-the-art technology while giving an overview of the progress at the Silicon Photonics CoE-CPPICS ✅Urmimala Chatterjee, PhD, imec and her talk on "GaN Technology for Power Electronics Applications" presented imec’s different GaN technology platforms for the power devices and covered the aspects of monolithic integration in this technology. ✅Dr.Kamaljeet Singh, DG, SEMI-Conductor Laboratory had a presentation entitled "Semi-conductor Laboratory : Capabilities Overview" in which he described the present capabilities of SCL in terms of packaging and integration of processes such as MCM, SiP etc. ✅Roel Baets, from the Universiteit Gent, talked about "Silicon Photonics: review of the main EU and international activities and technologies" and taught us about the leading position of Europe in the last years in terms of R&D for photonic integration and in silicon photonics to then compares it with other regions and reviewed the main EU and international silicon photonics activities Chair: Francis Balestra - ICOS coordinator All the presentations are available here: https://lnkd.in/enePAC9k
