2024 has seen many new clinical insights and advances in therapies for retinal conditions. We are pleased to share another study published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology: To investigate the often incomplete visual recovery following macular hole surgery, researchers at the University of Toronto used a rtx1 AO retinal camera to measure visual cone cells before and after surgery. 🗨️ "The high-resolution assessment of photoreceptors with AO imaging may be useful for future studies assessing the efficacy of surgical techniques on restoration of retinal anatomic integrity. Additionally, AO imaging has the potential to provide useful imaging biomarkers that predict postoperative functional outcomes." Congratulations to Paola Oquendo A, Miguel Cruz Pimentel, Tom Wright, Rajeev Muni and co-authors for these advances! 🔗 Read more in the open access paper: https://lnkd.in/e8qYCZ_f As a bright new year is about to begin, we wish you all a happy winter holiday season ! #ophthalmology #retina #retinalimaging #clinicalresearch #biomarkers #macularhole

Retinal diseases cause visual disability and blindness in over 400 million people worldwide. Imagine Eyes' mission is to enhance the diagnosis and management of these sight-threatening diseases, and improve visual health throughout the world. To do so, the company offers medical imaging devices that detect earlier signs of pathology at the back of the eye, deliver quicker readouts of treatment effectiveness, and enable more personalized retinal therapies. Imagine Eyes' products combine advanced biophotonics imaging with adaptive optics, a breakthrough technology derived from the area of astrophysics. As a result, they deliver images with microscopic resolution, and doctors can examine patients' retinas with an unprecedented level of detail: the cellular level. With Imagine Eyes’ devices, the eye becomes a clear window to health. The company’s team collaborates with several medical centers in order to address clinical applications not only in retinal ophthalmology, but also in other disciplines including cardiology and neurology. Great start at the FLORetina conference today! Mariacristina Parravano and Imre Lengyel gave fantastic talks highlighting how the rtx1 camera makes cellular-level retinal imaging applicable in clinical settings, enabling new insights into diabetic retinopathy pathogenic mechanisms and sensitive phenotyping in neurodegenerative diseases. We are grateful to them for giving such exposure to our product ! On the booth, we give live demos of the rtx1 and discuss its use for investigating many other conditions: early AMD, geographic atrophy, and inherited retinal diseases. #opthalmology #retinalimaging #clinicalresearch #retina

The rtx1 AO retinal camera enables new clinical insights into diabetic retinopathy - at the level of photoreceptor cells. At FLORetina/ICOOR 2024, Mariacristina Parravano researcher at IRCCS Fondazione Bietti will present AO findings from long term follow-up of diabetic patients with mild retinopathy, examined over several years using the rtx1. The team just published their latest results in Biomedicines, providing new insights into the progression of retinopathy in type 1 diabetes. Congratulations to Mariacristina Parravano, Serena Fragiotta and all the clinical research team for these advances! The AO-Vision project in Rotterdam just published a case series in BMC Ophthalmology, about a rare inflammatory disorder of the retina that has unclear pathogenesis. Even though patients' retina clincially recovered over time, the team reports an incomplete recovery at the level of visual cells - using adaptive optics enhanced retinal imaging. Congratulation to Pam Heutinck, Sander Wooning, Kübra Liman, Danilo Andrade De Jesus, Alberta Thiadens, members of the AO-Vision project and of Erasmus MC Rotterdam Ophthalmology Department for the publication of these insightful findings.
