  • 🌐 According to NASA, a 2 ºC rise in global temperatures is a critical threshold above which dangerous and cascading effects of #ClimateChange will occur. Countries in lower latitudes will experience significant impacts EVEN IF pledges to limit warming to less than 2°C are achieved. Meanwhile politicians worldwide continue to treat the #ClimateEmergency as an electorally useful “wedge issue”.

    • NASA: a 2 ºC increase in global temperatures will result in multiple, simultaneous, escalating impacts

+RAIN: Increased rainfall in the northern hemisphere. over high latitudes, implying a transition from snow- to rain-domination.
Could lead to substantial socio-economic damage by causing cascading disasters (e.g., floods and landslides).

+HEAT: Most regions of the world will experience higher heat stress, while countries closer to the equator will suffer increased number of days with extreme temperatures.
Resulting in significant human stress, economic damage, drought and crop failure.

+FIRE: Decreased rainfall in dry areas, including S. Africa, N. America, Australia, and the Mediterranean; resulting in extreme fires being more intense and longer-lasting.
Heat and drought could combine dangerously in places like the Amazon, increasing the risk of wildfire.
