🚨 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, despite progress in key areas. 📈 The latest annual stocktake from the 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, a collective bringing together 120 scientists worldwide, reveals that the world is on track to emit 37.4 billion tonnes of CO2 from fossil fuels in 2024, an increase of 0.8% from the previous year. This sobering news comes as world leaders gather at 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 in Baku, Azerbaijan to discuss climate action. 🌍 While 22 countries, including many in the European Union and the United States, have managed to reduce emissions while growing their economies, it's not enough to offset global growth in fossil fuel use. Encouragingly, there are signs that oil emissions may have peaked in China, driven by the rapid adoption of electric vehicles. The world stands on the brink of climate catastrophe as the 𝗨𝗡 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝟭.𝟱°𝗖. 🌡️ 🌍 Just two weeks before COP29, a recent United Nations report reveals that current climate policies are projected to lead to a staggering 3.1°C rise in global temperatures by the end of this century. This alarming trajectory far exceeds the Paris Agreement's target. Even if all existing pledges to cut emissions were fully implemented, we would still face a 2.6°C increase. ⚠️ The urgency of this situation is echoed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who has called on G20 economies to take immediate action to bridge the emissions gap. 🚨 𝟳𝟯% is the decline in wild populations of monitored animal species since 1970, according to the latest 𝗪𝗪𝗙 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅. 🐾 This alarming statistic is based on data from 35,000 populations of over 5,000 species of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish.
