Farmers don't have to do it all, nature can help! A healthy ecosystem has inherent mechanisms that protect plants from pests that cost nothing. Using crop protection products that have minimal effect on the environment, like our micropeptides, allows for natural processes that protect against invaders to be at work as well, allowing for healthier crops overall at a lower cost. This article from BEYOND PESTICIDES summarizes research published in Science Magazine and provides a great example where encouraging a healthy bat population by decreasing the use of pesticides helped minimize crop protection costs while also protecting human health. It’s great to see industry leaders rewarded for their hard work, including Marsela M. Navasero who won the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, the highest award given by the Philippine government. Marsela is an expert in the detection and control of invasive pests such as onion armyworm, fall armyworm, and coconut leaf beetle. She developed cost-effective and easy-to-adopt techniques to mass-produce natural enemies used in the biological control of plant pests and diseases and is known for her expertise in integrated pest management and pest biology.
