Do You Run Differently on a Treadmill vs. Overground? 🤔 Recently, I conducted a personal experiment to see how my running form changes between treadmill and overground running. As someone who does 95% of my runs overground, I rarely run on a treadmill, so I was curious about the differences. Using Ochy’s real-time biomechanics assessment tool, I was able to analyze the data and the results were eye-opening: 🔹 Treadmill: - 68% overall score - Midfoot landing, significant overstride - Ground contact time: 0.231 seconds - Stride length: 1.34 meters 🔹 Overground: - 73% overall score - Forefoot landing, slight overstride - Ground contact time: 0.234 seconds - Stride length: 3.04 meters It was fascinating to see how the moving belt of the treadmill shortened my stride and reduced my ground contact time. Meanwhile, overground running allowed me to push off more naturally, resulting in a longer stride. So, what’s the takeaway? While these small differences may seem minor, they can significantly affect performance, efficiency, and even injury risk. 🚀 We are excited to welcome Eva Filleur to the Ochy team as our new Research Engineer! 🎉 Eva brings a wealth of experience in both biomedical and biomechanics engineering, having led fascinating research projects that explore the biomechanics of para-athletes, sprint performance in rugby and athletics, and the impact of morphological changes during pregnancy on running. In addition to her impressive academic background, Eva has also worked on medical devices, optimizing signal analysis for electrocardiograms and managing clinical studies on connected insoles for patients with neurological and orthopedic conditions. Eva’s passion for biomechanics is matched by her love for running. After beginning her athletic journey with sprinting and long-jump, she has transitioned to long-distance running and even completed her first marathon recently! 🏃♀️✨ In Eva's own words: "I am delighted to join Ochy as a Research Engineer.
