[Agreement Signed with the Government of Kazakhstan at #COP29] This historic #agreement marks a significant milestone for #CentralAsia as the Republic of #Kazakhstan, represented by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev, has partnered with ORMEX Standard and Chapter Zero Kazakhstan. Signed today in #Baku, this collaboration aims to tackle climate and environmental challenges by focusing on #regenerating degraded #soils, combating soil #salinity and #desertification, ensuring #foodsecurity, and sequestering carbon through soil carbon storage. Kazakhstan, the 9th largest country globally, spans 26 million hectares of croplands and 128 million hectares of grasslands. The potential of #soilcarbon sequestration, as noted by the #IPCC, is vast—offering the ability to store between 0.4 to 8.6 GtCO2eq annually on a global scale, making it one of the most impactful strategies to combat #climatechange. Large-scale, national projects like this are essential for addressing environmental threats and advancing sustainable solutions for the future. Building on ORMEX’s success in certifying carbon removal in annual croplands and orchards in Benin, this project represents ORMEX’s first initiative in Kazakhstan. Together with Chapter Zero Kazakhstan, ORMEX is committed to addressing climate change impacts that affect future generations, setting a precedent for climate resilience and sustainable land management across the region. The 52nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (#CFS52) took place from October 21 to 25, 2024, in #Rome, Italy. This year marked a significant milestone as ORMEX participated for the first time, providing valuable insights to delegates and negotiators from various countries within the private sector group, #PSM. Key discussions during the session revolved around critical topics such as the 2024 State of #Food #Security and #Nutrition report, the repercussions of ongoing #conflicts on food #access in multiple nations, and the urgent need for a well-funded action plan. Additionally, there was a focus on the pivotal role of #women in food production, addressing the disparities in food and #water access across different continents and countries, and the importance of strengthening urban and peri-urban food systems to ensure food security. #NewPartnership in #Kazakhstan Last week ORMEX has signed a strategic partnership in #Astana with Chapter Zero Kazakhstan – a capacity-building organization, committed to empowering political leaders and private sector  to #ClimateResilient #governance and help us create a proficient #ecosystem on the ground to support #farmers in their transition from conventional to #regenerative #agriculture. This marks a 🆕 chapter for ORMEX development in #CentralAsia region and #carbon #removal projects in #desertification context 🏜️, soils salinity, #soils regeneration and #water #restauration. The lack of #Water ♒ is the main issue currently for the farmers in most parts of the world. If we do not help farmers to transition in #serenity and #adapt to new climate conditions #NOW, nature will make it impossible for us in few years. Our distinguished panel includes Mr. Rajendra Shende, former Director at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and former Coordinating Lead Author at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), who brings extensive expertise in environmental policy and climate science. Joining him is Ms. shakila shamsu, an esteemed educationist and policymaker, former OSD who has worked with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, whose experience in education and policy will significantly shape our discussions. Finding a #consensus when you are 198 countries 🌍 (Parties of the Paris Agreement) is definetely not an easy task! 😬 🧐 One thing though. I hear all the time “we are in a race”. ⏱️🏃🏃♀️ Well, in this case, shall/should/may we start using modern electronic voting tools 🗳️to facilitate and accelerate these [never ending] debates to get to a quicker consensus 🤝and start finally implementing these texts in our countries? 🙏🏻 If someone has an answer, please, share! [Act on the Climate Gap] 🌍 On this #Earth Week 2024, it's clear that we need to take urgent action to address our Climate Challenge. According to the IPCC Climate Change synthesis report (2023), National Defined Commitments (#NDCs)for mitigation policies, pledges and pathways to limit warming to 1.5°C during the 21st century is falling short of targets to reach 57 gigaton CO2eq by 4 to 7 gigaton CO2eq projected today for 2030 - what is called a growing "implementation gap." We are in a race. And we need as many drivers as possible. ORMEX is a new Standard and Registry that enables and commercializes scaled and fair progress in Regenerative Agriculture. This natural technology is a powerful tool for sequestering carbon, promoting biodiversity, and producing nutrition-dense crops🌽. It also generates new economics and offers greater human and planetary resiliency. Despite its many benefits, Regenerative Agriculture is not yet widely recognized. However, carbon sequestration in agriculture represents an estimated 3.5 gigaton of CO2eq per year according to the IPCC_AR6, as a potential contribution to net emission reduction by 2030. As we embrace this natural technology, carbon sequestration and mitigation are happening now and will continue to do so with greater confidence. Corporations must establish #NetZero paths, project developers must commit to scaled and diversified efforts in agriculture, and investors and consumers need to be more informed to tackle our Climate Challenge.
