Innovations within greenhouse horticulture follow each other in rapid succession. To keep the technicians at Dalsem - Complete Greenhouse Projects up-to-date, the organisation offers them the opportunity to attend a series of training courses at HortiTech. Earlier this week, our colleague Paul Jochems had the honour of giving an introductory training session on #photobiology to a selected group of technical engineers. During this training session, Paul elaborated on the effect the light spectrum has on plant development and how we have translated this knowledge into a smart #LEDlighting solution. He also demonstrated how growers can use this solution to control the spectrum in order to further improve #flexibility, #efficiency & #sustainability. The training ended with a visit to the test compartment which we recently fitted with our RED T LED lighting fixtures for people to experience the colors from the spectrum in real-time. ‘It was a cool session full of interesting questions,’ said Paul Jochems. Thank you HortiTech for the invitation and Dalsem for the get-acquainted experience.

𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 Many of our users choose to integrate Smart Dimming into their intuitive MyRED software application. This feature provides even greater control over energy consumption, enabling smarter and more sustainable cultivation practices. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼? Smart Dimming is an intelligent functionality that dynamically adjusts the lighting system based on the available natural light. Think of it as a mirror of outdoor light levels: 🌞 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? The LED lighting automatically dims. 🌥 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? The lighting compensates. This creates the 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. The graph below beautifully illustrates this process: 🌞 Outdoor light levels fluctuate depending on the weather. 💡 Smart Dimming adapts to these patterns, ensuring more efficient lighting. 📉 The 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 at the bottom represents energy consumption. While the display could be further refined, the trend is clear: 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 without compromising growth. With Smart Dimming, we’re not just helping growers save on energy costs, we’re also supporting their efforts to reduce their ecological footprint. A smart innovation that aligns perfectly with the greenhouse sector’s journey toward a more sustainable future. 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Team HortiTech has been hard at work over the past few days. They independently installed our lighting fixtures—"A piece of cake," we heard them say. Yesterday, our colleague Matt Truman set up the #REDbox, the RED access point, and the #REDSense system, complete with sensors for measuring #PAR, temperature, humidity, and CO2. He then activated the entire system, including the 4-channel #LED lighting fixtures, using the user-friendly #MyRED software application. This morning, our agronomist Paul Jochems was on-site, not only to admire the quality of the topped young #Beesan cucumber plants from @NoordamPlants, but also to test, configure, and calibrate the fixtures as needed. Thanks to thorough preparation and collaboration between Perry van Adrichem, #TeamStolze, and #TeamRED, we can proudly reflect on the successful installation of this exciting project. Now, onward to the first harvest!

Chat with RED... Vincent Belloir Vincent works as a Hardware Engineer at RED Horticulture, based in the Lyon office. Vincent is an integral part of the team driving RED Horticulture’s #environmental initiatives. Committed to climate responsibility, RED Horticulture is conducting a carbon footprint calculation for 2024 in compliance with the French BEGES regulation. Vincent, as part of the #ESG team, is spearheading a comprehensive carbon assessment of our activities and developing a decarbonization strategy. “This project helps us understand our environmental impact in areas such as transport, raw materials and most importantly, the electrical consumption of our luminaires. More crucially, it guides us in finding ways to reduce this impact,” Vincent explains. RED Horticulture’s products already outperform traditional HPS technology, offering greater energy efficiency and precise light spectrums to reduce global consumption. However, Vincent acknowledges that there is still room for improvement. Vincent’s commitment to #sustainability extends to his personal life. Living in a house built in 1880, he is renovating it using environmentally friendly materials such as wood, raw earth, lime and hemp wool. The home is heated with geothermal energy, reflecting Vincent’s dedication to reducing his carbon footprint. In terms of daily consumption, Vincent and his family prioritize food sourced from local farms or their own garden, purchasing goods in bulk to minimize packaging waste. He further reduces his footprint by working from home twice a week and commuting by bike or train. #carbonfootprint #ESG
