That is what we retain from the last #COP29 that took place in Baku (Azerbaijan). ➡️ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: After 2 weeks of tense negotiations, the failure of COP29 Azerbaijan was avoided at the very last minute with a reduced commitment from advanced economies to mobilize $300 billion annually by 2035 to assist least developed and most vulnerable countries in fighting the impacts of #climatechange. This is far from the actual needs – estimated in trillions – but the fight continues. All stakeholders, notably private ones, have a role to play as expressed by the "roadmap from Baku to Belem" that aims to raise the bar to $1300 billion in annual fundings. ➡️ 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: COP29 took off at top speed with the adoption, on the very first day, of the rules for #carbon credits market, supervised by the United Nations. This has now been achieved with the historic agreement on Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, after nine years of negotiations. The remaining details to be resolved included the structure of a registry to track credits, as well as the amount of information countries should share about their agreements and the repercussions in case of non-compliance. Even if this commitment plays its part, the stakes about the integrity of carbon credits are not sufficiently addressed. Moreover, there is major missing piece in the puzzle of this COP29: the conference concluded without any explicit mention of the progressive transition away from fossil fuels, while it was particularly expected after COP28 in Dubai. ⏭️ Let's meet at COP30 in Belem (Brazil), hoping that this time, these different unresolved topics will be tackled without being postponed. By then, Reforest'Action will pursue its mission to mobilize companies and project holders on the necessity to restore #ecosystems, while addressing #mitigation and adaptation to climate change. #sustainabledevelopment #naturebasedsolutions #nature #environment #carboncredits #VCM

The event focused on how communities, and industries such as fashion, food, pharma can embrace new nature-based approaches. 🌍 A hundred business leaders, #scientists and #indigenous leaders from across the world have come together to accelerate the move towards a nature-first economy, at this event hosted by The King in London. Participants discussed the need to'Re-Nature, Re-Think and Re-Activate' to create an ecosystem that connects international companies, local stakeholders and the finance industry to holistically redesign supply chains around #regenerative landscapes. 🔎 The Circular Bioeconomy Alliance aims to accelerate the transition to a nature-first, circular bioeconomy that is #climate neutral, inclusive and powers prosperity. The CBA combines a rigorous science-based framework, coalitions of expert willing partners, indigenous and local leaders and a bespoke 'Living Lab' activation model to build and scale #sustainable value chains which transform land, food, health and industrial systems. Last week was the launch of the newly formed UK based Charity Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (#CBA). The CBA was initiated by His Majesty the King Charles 3 in 2020 (but not as a charity at the time) to promote an economy based on Nature instead of fossil energy and commodities. Since the beginning, Reforest'Action is a member of the Alliance, developping living labs, i.e. projects demontrating the benefits of shifting to a nature based economy. Our project in Equator is one of these living labs: funded by LVMH and implemented in partnership with the Pachamama foundation, we have restored nearly 1000 hectares on the Achuar territories led by Uyunkar Domingo Peas (on the picture below). This project is as holistic as can be: it includes #forest restoration, #agroforestry, development of local value chains (especially #vanilla), but also the creation of a school for young #indigenous people. Preserving a culture which knows how to live in harmony with Nature is one of the great benefits of the project. I had the pleasure to take part of this amazing CBA launch event at SaintJames's Palace, chaired by Dame Amelia Fawcett DBE, CVO and led by the highly visionary Marc Palahí, in presence of His Majesty the King and numerous CBA Members. We all share the same vision that Nature is a keystone of the economic model we need to deploy fast. If you want to take part of this mouvement, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other member of this beautiful Alliance. IAPB has also worked with a group of Knowledge Partners including from leading scientific institutions. ➡️ And of course, Reforest'Action has been a part of it, as a discussion panel member. Reforest'Action was selected to showcase one of the pilot projects that bring the institutional framework to life through real-world examples. We notably presented our forest restoration project in China's Guizhou region and highlighted our comprehensive #impact management approach. During #COP16, on October 28 in Cali (Colombia), with the Ministers of Ecology from France and the United Kingdom in attendance, and under the co-chairmanship of Sylvie Goulard and Dame Amelia Fawcett DBE, CVO, co-presidents, Reforest'Action participated in the official launch of the #Framework. 🤝🏻 Together, we can create a world where #nature and #humanity coexist harmoniously. The #IAPB Framework is one (big) step towards this world.

𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 🔎 Officially launched during #COP16 in Cali, Colombia, The Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) is the most scientifically rigorous certification for #biodiversity protection, enhancement and restoration in projects worldwide. This groundbreaking initiative is powered by the world’s largest plant conservation network with over 900 member institutions and 60,000 experts in over 100 countries, all working together to create a brighter, more biodiverse future. And of course, Reforest'Action has been a part of it, as a technical partner over the past 2 years. 🌳 The Global Biodiversity Standard provides assurance that land management interventions such as #tree planting, habitat restoration and #agroforestry practices undertaken by organizations and governments are protecting, safeguarding, and restoring biodiversity, rather than inadvertently causing harm. Its mission is to replace the "any tree at minimal cost" solution to #climate change and tree planting with long-term, best practice solutions that combine the considerations of biodiversity, local communities, and #carbon capture by providing recognition, incentives, assurance and knowledge. 🤝🏻 Together, we can create a world where #nature and #humanity coexist harmoniously. #TGBS is one (big) step towards this world.
