🔎 How can civil society and communities promote integration for those in refugee-like situations, especially youngsters? And how can best practices be mobilised? 🤝🌍This was the topic of REFUGIN 1st Network Online Event, organised by IPS_Innovative Prison Systems, one of our esteemed partners, which gathered over 30 educational and NGO’s practitioners, working closely with displaced youth from all over Europe. 📝Here’s a quick summary: The testimonials from two NGOs, SolidarityNow (GR) and InPulsar (PT), emphasised the importance of providing a sustainable, guided, and positive integration process for youngsters in refugee-like situations, respecting their different needs and stages. However, this sustained and positive integration doesn’t come without its challenges. Namely: 👉 Legal challenges, not only in getting all the needed information and support but also those challenges felt when trying to access the refugee status, leading to frustration both from the youngsters and the professionals working with them 👉 Lack of resources and financial constraints, hindering sustainable solutions towards integration The solution? 💡Provide continuous psychological and emotional support both to staff members and the youngsters in forced displacement process 💡Invest in capacitation for professionals and the youngsters in refugee-like situations education 💡Promote an active inter-institutional cooperation, as well as peer-to-peer exchange and intervision processes 💡Actively improve young refugees’ social connectedness and trust-based relationships with the host community You can learn more about the REFUGIN project here: https://lnkd.in/eb5FbgaU Are you part of the REFUGIN Network yet? Communitarian approach for holistic young refugee long-term integration
À propos
Refugee integration is a priority on the European agenda, reflecting a mutual process characterised by several challenges, among which individual shortages, discriminatory attitudes, and a lack of coordinated assistance must be highlighted. Amongst these, young refugees are especially vulnerable, as they have to face key developmental stages whilst dealing with challenging resettlement paths, thus requiring holistic integrative efforts. To achieve medium-to-long term integration, the host society and young refugees must be mobilised, fomenting educational and social integration, hence contributing to a more tolerant Europe. The project strives to improve young refugee integration via the improvement of the knowledge and skills of education professionals and NGOs working comprehensively with forcibly displaced youth, as well as through the direct capacitation of young refugees. REFUGIN focuses on strengthening the role of key civil society professionals on the medium-to-long-term integration of young refugees

🤔Technology as a vehicle for empowering those in refugee-like situations? 👉We invite you to take a look at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) video on this matter: Empowering Refugees through Technology - YouTube 💡 As the video sheds light on the importance of digital technologies in the daily practice of organisations and governments when providing services and support to forcibly displaced persons, it addresses how technology can bring solutions with tangible benefits. Nevertheless, it heightens our attention to how it needs to avoid potential risks to those in refugee-like situations, following a harm-free approach to ensure no online exploitation. 🔎What are your thoughts on this video and topic? You can let us know on the comments below or share them on the REFUGIN network, as we are collecting insights on this topic as well! ⭐ Are you part of the REFUGIN Network yet? 🤝 Together with my colleague Hubert Pajączkowski from SWC - The School with Class Foundation (Fundacja Szkola Z Klasa), we presented the REFUGIN project at the 2nd SISWEC Intercategorial Training of Trainers Seminar on Forced Migration, Refugees, Human Rights, and Social Action, held from May 16th to 18th, 2024, in Warsaw, Poland. Our presentation, "How to Work with Young Refugees: The Experience of the REFUGIN Project", highlighted our efforts to support education professionals, NGOs, and young refugees. 🧑🏫🌍 The SISWEC project aims to harmonize training approaches, action methodologies, and content to enhance the skills of professionals addressing Europe's challenges in supporting vulnerable and marginalized populations. It also seeks to connect higher education with the social work sector. 🎓🤝 Funded by Erasmus+ The seminar saw over 50 participants from various EU countries share experiences and learn about supporting migrants in Poland. We also visited Fundacja Ukraiński Dom to discuss their work with Ukrainian war refugees. 💪 🤝 💙 💛 Thanks to all of u : Fachhochschule Salzburg, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, University of Nicosia, Ifrass, European Social Network, and IPS_Innovative Prison Systems! 🤝 👏 #REFUGIN #SISWEC #Migration #HumanRights #SocialAction #RefugeeSupport #ProfessionalDevelopment #HigherEducation #SocialWork #ErasmusPlus

🌍Act together to integrate! Sharing the word throughout partner countries! Earlier this month, the REFUGIN project was presented at an insightful event hosted by Fórum Refugio and CRIA-ISCTE, in Lisbon, Portugal. Focusing on the project rationale, but mostly on the surveyed educational and civic professionals working with youngsters in refugee-like situations, and the youngsters themselves, @IPS_Innovative Prison Systems, as the local project partner, delved into the main needs found to unlock integration in a sustained way. Going from cultural awareness to trauma-informed responses, the REFUGIN project listened to over 200 European professionals to tailor its outcomes and products, with a current focus on its training offer. 👉To be part of it, you are welcome to register here: https://lnkd.in/dmEexJjp
