We are pleased to announce that Sakata Vegetables in EMEA has laid the foundation stone for its new headquarters in Spain and Portugal, which is set to open in 2026. In an emotional ceremony, President Mr. Hiroshi Sakata, His Excellency Takahiro Nakamae, the Ambassador of Japan in Spain, and the Honourable Antonio Bonilla, Mayor of Vicar,  joined Sakata employees, attendees and friends to mark this significant milestone. During the event, they shared their well-wishes for the new project, which were sealed in an urn and placed inside the commemorative monument. Mr. Sakata emphasized that this new building is the next step in Sakata’s journey within the dynamic seed sector. He pointed out that it will be a an epicentre of innovation and collaboration, furthering Sakata’s mission to achieve remarkable advancements. Javier Bernabéu, General Manager of Sakata Seed Ibérica, reflected on Sakata’s 29-year journey in Spain, highlighting the challenges and key milestones, including the establishment of the research station in Almeria. Thank you, Hiroshi Kitagawa, Consul General of Japan, and Jalil Benabdillah, Vice-President in charge of Economy, Employment, Innovation, and Reindustrialization for visiting Sakata’s premises in Uchaud today, during the “Quinzaine du Japon en Occitanie”! This visit confirms how mutually enriching the links between the Region (La Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée) and Sakata can be. Occitanie is a key region for Japanese investments (about 12% of Japanese investment projects in France), and Sakata Vegetables Europe is one of the major Japanese companies settled in this Region since 1997. For local economic development, the role of the Region is essential in supporting the agronomy sector (universities, research centers, etc.) and in developing solid infrastructures. The relationship with the Region works both ways since Sakata contributes to the economic growth of the local communities, employing 200 people in Uchaud and working with 200 regional suppliers. Sakata’s investment in the Region will continue in the coming years, with the extension of its administrative premises and the renovation of farm facilities and equipment. Julien I. La relation avec la Région fonctionne dans les deux sens, car Sakata contribue à la croissance économique locale, employant plus de 200 personnes à Uchaud et travaillant avec près de 200 fournisseurs régionaux. L’investissement de Sakata en Occitanie se poursuivra dans les années à venir, avec l’extension de ses bâtiments administratifs et la rénovation des installations agricoles.
