🔵 Space Y’s Ongoing Efforts to Strengthen Europe’s Downstream Space Sector❗ 🔴 As the European Union prepares for its next Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF), which will define the EU budget distribution in the period going from 2028 to 2032, the awareness of the benefits that the space downstream sector can offer to the EU is more critical than ever. 🔵 This sector leverages satellite-based data and technologies across various applications and sectors, spanning from transport to environmental monitoring, and from aviation to critical infrastructure management, to mention just a few, playing a pivotal role in Europe’s economic growth, innovation, and security. 🔴 Since April, Space Y has convened a dedicated working group to tackle the challenges currently hindering the full uptake of space-based data and services and the return for society of the substantial investments made by the EU in the design and deployment of its Space Programme Infrastructure. 🔵 The position paper that will be released by Space Y to share the findings of the working group will outline specific priorities that policymakers should consider when allocating funds under the next MFF and will include actionable recommendations to guide them to support the competitiveness, autonomy and full flourishment of the space downstream sector in Europe. #EUcompetitiveness #EUBudget #SpaceDownstream #SpaceDownstreamIndustry #SpaceApplications https://lnkd.in/eYPbXfqf

Yesterday, the upcoming Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS) was successfully tested in Bucharest. In collaboration with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania (IGSU), we demonstrated how this service would function in real-life scenarios.   Using a simulated flood scenario in a designated region, IGSU showcased the capabilities of the EWSS pilot platform, developed by the #EUSpace Programme. The demonstration illustrated how an alert, identified by the National Civil Protection Authority, is sent to smartphones located in the targeted area. Once the message was released by the National Authority, Galileo infrastructure broadcast it and triggered the smartphone alert to notify the population in the affected zone.   The participants saw the content of the alert messages and how fast they were received. The demonstration also included the reception of a follow-up message confirming the end of the crisis.   Galileo EWSS will offer a major advantage in crises and hazard management, and it will remain available when other Early Warning Systems like mobile networks are congested, disrupted, or even destroyed. To reduce such costs, Sogei is working on a solution that will allow users to choose among different high-accuracy services according to their needs. 🛰️ The solution uses the Galileo High Accuracy Service and GNSS Software-Defined Radio (SDR) technologies to address the issues of obsolescence and high cost of receivers, ensuring that the devices are fully reconfigurable, while also providing the Italian Revenue Agency with improved cadastral surveying.
