🌍 A World First in Hydrogen and Solid Carbon Production: Spark Inaugurates Industrial Demonstrator in Lamotte-Beuvron 🌱 Today, we're proud to announce a major milestone for Spark Cleantech, as we inaugurate our industrial demonstrator for the production of hydrogen and solid carbon from biomethane, in partnership with Evergaz, SOLOGNE AGRI METHANISATION and Ville de Lamotte-Beuvron. ⚡ This world-first demonstrator showcases our unique, patented technology that produces hydrogen and solid carbon without CO2 emissions using a groundbreaking process called temperature-controlled plasmalysis. This innovation will pave the way for Spark's industrialization and accelerate major commercial agreements. 🔎 Our technology offers a cost-effective solution to the hydrogen challenge with applications in high-temperature industrial processes and heavy mobility, while at the same time capturing carbon in a solid form that can be used as an industrial material. 🌱 Biomethane is a renewable gas, produced from the decomposition of organic matter that has captured CO2 from the atmosphere. When used directly, it is therefore a neutral energy solution in terms of CO2 emissions. With Spark's technology, however, the carbon is captured before it is re-emitted. The overall balance is therefore negative. This breaks the traditional cycle, removing CO2 from the atmosphere and helping to repair the planet. We are grateful for the support of the local community, especially the Ville de Lamotte-Beuvron, which is setting a prime example of how rural regions can play a key role in the energy transition. 🌟 New Talent at Spark! 🌟 This September, we welcomed five talented interns who have hit the ground running and quickly become an integral part of Spark Cleantech! They are here to learn, but they also bring a diverse set of skills and experiences, and they are already making impactful contributions to Spark’s mission of decarbonizing high-temperature industrial processes. 👷♂️ Ahintie (Operations Engineer): A student at École Polytechnique with a background in process optimization and energy efficiency, Ahintie joins us to assist in the safe operation and maintenance of our industrial demonstrator, overseeing system calibration and testing. 👨🔧 Antoine (Mechanical Design & Prototyping): A mechanical engineering student at Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), Antoine specializes in design and prototyping and will work on optimizing key components of our plasma reactors. 👨🏭 Ethan (Mechanical Design & Prototyping): As a second-year student at CentraleSupélec, Ethan has developed a deep passion for electronics and robotics through various personal and academic projects, and will apply his hands-on skills to enhance the efficiency of our plasma reactors. 👨🔬 Osvaldo (Computational Fluid Dynamics): A student at Universidad de Chile and CentraleSupélec in a double-degree program in applied mathematics, Osvaldo brings his expertise to optimize our process through CFD simulations. 👨💻 Maxime (Data engineer): Currently pursuing a Master's degree at EPITA: Ecole d'Ingénieurs en Informatique, Maxime brings valuable previous experience, optimizing our experimental and industrial data pipelines and building predictive and anomaly detection models. 🌍💡 Did you know that producing 1 kg of hydrogen typically emits around 10 kg of carbon dioxide? This significant carbon footprint undermines hydrogen's potential as a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels. The most common method, steam methane reforming, releases substantial amounts of carbon dioxide. While alternatives like water electrolysis exist, they consume a large amount of electricity. Enter Spark Cleantech, a French startup from Paris-Saclay. They've developed a groundbreaking technology that generates hydrogen using only a fraction of the electricity required for water electrolysis. Spark's innovative plasmalysis process breaks down methane into hydrogen and solid carbon using cold nanopulsed plasma. For more details, check out https://lnkd.in/ddimQc-6. This technology not only produces hydrogen without carbon dioxide emissions but also yields solid carbon, which can be transformed into valuable products like tires, inks, and rubber. During my internship with Spark Cleantech, I gained invaluable insights into the workings of a small R&D team. I even got hands-on experience, thanks to the incredible mentorship of Sara Delahaie and the amazing Spark Cleantech team. Next year I will have the opportunity to pursue an internship abroad as part of my second year at ENS Paris Saclay. I am already looking forward to it!
