Case study: industry-sponsored energy communities Energy communities backed by industry sponsors have emerged as a trend in the transition towards sustainable energy. One recent example is the case of Ferrari, which in 2023 signed an agreement with Enel X to create a photovoltaic plant serving a new renewable energy community in Fiorano and Maranello, adjacent to the Fiorano Ferrari Circuit. The Ferrari energy community will be the first project of its kind in Italy for the benefit of its local territory. The project envisages an average production of approximately 1,500 MWh over 20 years, reducing associated CO2 emissions by approximately 450 tons per year. Bringing creative dreams to life as an artist-entrepreneur A huge thanks to REAL Campus by L'Oréal for welcoming VIVACE to share strategies for building skills in entrepreneurship in the beauty and cosmetics sector at this month's Open Day. What are the key steps to becoming an artist-entrepreneur, in the beauty sector or elsewhere? • First, artist-entrepreneurs must understand the ecosystem in which they are operating. • Second, artist-entrepreneurs must develop an offering that engages multiple audiences, thereby unlocking multiple income streams. • Third, artist-entrepreneurs must be capable of managing all phases of the creative process, from concept development and production to marketing, distribution and publicity. • Fourth, artist-entrepreneurs must be able to situate their work within a broader philosophical, social and cultural tradition. By having multiple income streams, controlling the creative process and self-publishing / promoting, artist-entrepreneurs can bring their creative dreams to life. This requires not only understanding the economic landscape for their creations, but also making informed decisions about how best to generate value from their work. Kicking off the winter netwalking season What is netwalking? Netwalking is a unique concept that blends networking and walking, fostering an environment where professionals can build connections and share ideas while enjoying the benefits of being outdoors. VIVACE is pleased to have contributed to the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits Framework for high-integrity biodiversity credit markets, which launched at COP16 Colombia last month. Here are some of our key takeaways: • Biodiversity credits help conserve and restore nature by measurable, evidence-based units of positive biodiversity impact, ensuring credibility and coherence on an international scale. • The IAPB's framework is an important step towards creating additional, significant demand for biodiversity credits. Unlike carbon credits, which have established markets and mechanisms, biodiversity credits are still nascent and lack strong demand drivers. • Understanding contribution versus compensation is key. Contribution credits allow international funding into a global pool of nature projects. Compensation credits restrict funding to projects in close proximity to companies' operations and supply chains. • Credits can be sold as futures (in advance of issuance or certification) but any impact claims should not be made by the purchaser until after certification (i.e., once the impact has been achieved). • Biodiversity is site-specific rather than "fungible", as are carbon markets. Learning from previous market pitfalls and failures is critical. • The framework seeks to respond directly to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss. • There remains a strong need for regulation and compliance markets, as without government interventions and regulation such markets will be very difficult to scale. • Biodiversity credit projects can be managed to support broader SDG goals, especially strengthening of food and water systems. Indeed, they represent an innovative way to add complementary revenue streams to farming, irrigation and agronomy projects. • The blue economy represents an important opportunity and presents a number of innovative opportunities for credit generation while supporting local maritime operations. De l’énergie dans nos déchets ! Nous sommes de retour d'un parcours d'innovation pour découvrir différentes solutions de #valorisation #énergétique des #déchets en #France et en #Italie. Voici quelques constats : • Un tiers de nos déchets ménagers, soit près de 10 millions de tonnes, sont organiques et donc méthanisables (déchets de cuisine, déchets de jardins...). • Un autre tiers de nos déchets ménagers termine, par ailleurs, dans la poubelle des déchets résiduels. Case study: the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program Rodolphe #Lindt founded his #chocolate factory in 1879. Conducting various tests with somewhat out-of-date equipment, Lindt accidentally left one of the grinding machines running during the weekend. To his surprise on Monday morning, the long period of processing had turned the chocolate mass into a smooth melting chocolate which was later coined as “chocolat fondant” with enormous demand. Today, the legacy of Rodolphe Lindt's #innovation is still evident, as the techniques he developed continue to be used by chocolatiers around the globe. Equally, the techniques of Lindt have also stood the test of time from a #sustainability perspective. Below is a timeline of key moments in Lindt's sustainability journey: ▪️ 1994: Lindt initiates its first sustainable cocoa #sourcing program, ensuring that the ingredients used are both high-quality and responsibly sourced. ▪️ 2008: Launch of the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program, designed to improve the livelihoods of #farmers and their families by providing educational resources and infrastructure development. ▪️ 2013: Lindt sets ambitious targets to fully trace their #cocoa beans back to the source, emphasizing #transparency and #accountability. ▪️ 2017: The company strengthens its commitment to a long-term partnership with local farmers, focusing on improving #agricultural #practices and enhancing #community #development. ▪️ 2021: Lindt achieves its goal of sourcing 100% of its cocoa beans through its Farming Program. Through these initiatives, Lindt continues to not only prioritize premium quality but also commits to #ethical and #sustainable production methods that benefit communities and the #environment. Since 2021, VIVACE has been collaborating with partner farms such as those in the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program. This includes providing #training on environmentally friendly techniques and promoting responsible farming practices. We have also worked with chocolate producers to develop sustainable #packaging solutions that further minimize environmental impact. Alongside these efforts, our advisory work focuses on #researchanddevelopment initiatives aimed at reducing #carbon emissions within the production processes. Through this work, we aim to not only support long-term sustainability goals of chocolate producers but also lead by example, inspiring others in the industry to adopt more sustainable practices. Building partnerships with cocoa farmers, particularly with a view towards helping them develop their own chocolate products, is a strong path forward for sustainability in this industry. The business case for regenerative agriculture Regenerative agriculture is gaining attention as a viable business strategy, resulting in enhanced soil health, increased crop yields and reduced agri input costs over time. To this end, companies such as General Mills, Patagonia and Danone have recognized the potential of regenerative agriculture and are actively investing in it. Investment programs include land convertion programs, adopting regenerative farming methods and regenerative sourcing requirements.
