Next Thursday, I will participate to a panel discussion on the topic : Benchmarking the Virtual Power Plant environment. VPPs are fast emerging as one of the key technologies to help decarbonise the electricity grid. In a power grid with high shares of renewables, VPPs help us keep the lights on even when there is low sun or wind. But unlike gas or coal plant, they don’t emit CO2, and they can be much much cheaper, even compared to grid-scale batteries, thus lowering power prices consumers.  In today’s rapidly evolving energy system, with growing shares of wind and solar, and rising demand from data centres, EVs and heat pumps, creating a favourable environment for VPPs is becoming a “must have” strategy for managing electricity systems.   I am looking forward to discussing with my panel partners Pierre Lelong Dr Gabrielle Kuiper and Violet Chen.
