COST Action Women on the Move (CA19112) sends its greetings for the festive season and wishes 2025 be marked by openness and inclusion. May the holidays be joyful and peaceful for all.
Women on the Move (WEMov) is an international network funded by COST (CA19112) A network of researchers from 52 countries, we are engaged in the timely mission of unveiling women migrants' presence and participation in the construction of Europe. Our transdisciplinary outlook combines a wide variety of expertise in history, sociology, demography, economy, anthropology, political science and the arts, among many other fields. This will foster complementary perspectives to show women migrants' presence, obstacles and capacities in past and present migratory contexts. Women on the Move (CA19112) is a science and technology network funded over a four-year period and developing networking tools to meet the research coordination and capacity building objectives set out in the COST Action’s Memorandum of Understanding. Its Grant Holder is Université de Picardie Jules Verne, and it was previously hosted by Université Paris Cité.

A collection of photographs of Refugee camp in El Shatt The photographs document the lives of people in the camp in El Shatt, including women who were forced to leave their homes because of the war. The most significant part of the collection is made up of portraits of people in the camp, medical interventions, the work of fine artists, newspaper publishing, cultural events and the large exhibition of Yugoslav Folk Art and Crafts held in Cairo at the end of 1944. Some photos illustrate the cemetery in El Shatt and graves, and several photos document individual districts of the refugee camp. As part of the WEMov project, we focus on objects that hold significance for migrant women. Today's featured object is an embroidered blouse. Kateryna (aged 28) left Ukraine in 2018 to Georgia. For her, the object that best represents her migration experience is her embroidered blouse. “I brought the embroidery with me. Probably many Ukrainians have exactly such an answer. And it is not surprising. It is difficult to find a stronger symbol of Ukraine for a Ukrainian. It is a Ukrainian tradition, it is my connection with home, it is a talisman, it is a connection with my family. Embroidery is a sacred thing for a Ukrainian. This embroidery is very valuable to me, because I embroidered it myself. It is completely handmade and this is my first embroidery, which I made with my own hands.” #CA19112 #COSTAction #WEMov #EuropeanResearch
