Our industry association, Airborne Wind Europe, has an update we'd like to share. We rely on the great people to spread the news that airborne wind energy has a bright future and to get the public support we deserve to bring our new technologies to commercial readiness.
💨 A productive week in Brussels for Airborne Wind Europe, engaging in key discussions on the future of wind energy and how #AirborneWindEnergy can contribute to the clean energy transition. 📝 Kristian Petrick, Secretary General of AWEU, participated on Wednesday in the EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance’s High-Level Policy Conference, focusing on the pivotal role of Research & Innovation (R&I) in achieving the European Green Deal’s goals. 🪁 Interesting insights from policymakers, industry experts, and academics, emphasising the importance of supporting innovation to maintain Europe’s competitiveness, as well as fruitful talks with César Dro and Daniel C. from the European Commission,. #AWE could play a key role in diversifying and scaling renewable energy systems.🔋 📝 On Thursday, Kristian Petrick, attended the ETIPWind Workshop, where experts collaborated on bringing together the ETIPWind Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) 2025-2027 and the NeWindEERA, EERA’s long-term wind research programme. The session, moderated by Stephan Barth, featured presentations by Ignacio Marti Perez and Capucine Vannoorenberghe. While the topics are well aligned, the challenge is now to give wind R&I higher priority within the EC and Member States and to ringfence dedicated funding for wind energy. The industrial marketability of the European wind sector was a key concern, highlighted by a live survey where participants identified the risk of Europe losing ground to China. 🚨 #AWE will be included in the Wind R&I Roadmap as a complementary technology, expanding wind energy’s markets and potential. 🙏 Engaging discussions with European Commission representatives Davide Amato, Joao Serrano Gomes and Andrea Hercsuth, underscored the need for European institutions and the wind sector to ensure long-term R&I funding for wind. Regarding the Innovation Fund, two of the eight wind projects are currently AWE projects, and there may be more opportunities by proposing an AWE-sector-wide proposal as a consortium. The concept of regulatory sandboxes, which, if well implemented by Member States, could accelerate the establishment of more AWE sites across Europe. 🤝 Kristian Petrick also met with MEP Nicolás González Casares to discuss raising awareness about #AWE within the European Parliament and European Commission. Exciting developments are ahead, and we look forward to sharing more soon! 💡 Stay tuned for updates on how #AWE can drive Europe’s clean energy future. #AWE #WindEnergy #AirborneWindEnergy #CleanEnergy #Innovation #Sustainability #NetZero #GreenTech #CleanTech #CleanIndustrialDeal #NZIA
