Now this a rescue with zero margin for error in a hostile environment.These guys train so when it goes pear shaped they are on it elite military units and rescue teams do the same. So I always ask teams I train or work with is yuur rescue plan adequate? How often do you practice these skills or is it just a lip service or ticking a box remember in the heat of moment things will change and you must adapt. So here’s the question are your rescue plans robust and trained regulary ?

I recently walked around the building with colleagues taking time to understand the measures we've put in place to make a positive impact on environmental sustainability, and our ongoing plans for a sustainable future. Our Sustainability Action Team sourced surveys of the Explorer House grounds in 2022, to inform our biodiversity strategy. We adopted new practices such as No Mow May and Let It Bloom June, as leaving our lawns wild encourages pollinating insects, helping bees gather more nectar. We're inspired and encouraged to see so many OS colleagues getting involved. Some of our flower beds have become employee allotments where teams are looking forward to a summer of growing courgettes, pumpkins, radishes, wildflowers, and sunflowers. This year we added a wildlife pond (which is just out of shot in the middle right of the image) and continue to work on our grass management plan to create rich wildflower meadows. I also spied our seven bat boxes installed in our oak trees, which are predicted to be upwards of 200 years old, the bug hotels our volunteers have built in our rough meadow, and the bee holes and swift bricks we’ve installed in our acoustic walls; all to encourage the local flora and fauna, and ensure richer biodiversity at OS HQ. 💚 Thanks for sharing Phillip. #biodiversity #environmental #sustainability #ISO14001 #AerialImagery #AerialPhotography #OrdnanceSurvey

One of the great honours I have in heading up an organisation like World Extreme Medicine | B Corp Certified is being able to highlight the daily heroism and sacrifice of people who aren't often in the limelight. Oft is ignored by mainstream media, but whose selflessness, dedication, and bravery deserve far more recognition than they do. So, it was with great delight that I saw 𝐃𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 featured in a story about Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (PGHM High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon), PGHM Officiel a specialised unit within the French Gendarmerie dedicated to high-altitude rescue operations in mountainous and rugged terrain. These elite rescuers are known for their expertise in conducting search and rescue missions in some of France's most rugged and remote areas, including the Alps and the Pyrenees. 𝑨𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒍𝒂𝒘 𝒆𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒌𝒆𝒚 𝒇𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆; 1. 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞: Perform complex rescues involving stranded or injured mountaineers, hikers, and skiers. They operate under extreme conditions, often using helicopters and advanced climbing techniques. 2. 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: Provide critical medical assistance in the field, stabilising patients before they are evacuated to safer locations or hospitals. 3. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: PGHM units train other rescue teams and engage in public education to promote safety in high-altitude activities. This is just the tip of the WEM Community IceBerg, a feature often with an extreme medic perched on top of it!
