By popular demand, here's a brief breakdown of how to make last week's post. Create a few (um...400) circles. Assemble them with Weld joints and animate the tension value. Based on this animation, use ConnectlayersPRO (or similar) to create an animated mask path. Link the mask to the text (see our other tutorials). Duplicate this comp and choose a frame to freeze your text, create shape layers from the text at this point. Use Newton to separate all the letters. Desynchronize all the letters so that they disappear at random. Animate them with Newton. #TransitVizThursday Transit in Motion 🚍 Transit in Motion is a now 4 year old project and was a culmination of a lot of different analysis and visual styles all relating to public transport patterns in 2020. The resulting series of animations show public transport in a different light, a more abstract and conceptual view of the beating heartbeat of various cities. 💓 At it's core it is a glimpse into the heart of cities, reimagined as a symphony of movement and sound. 💡 The animation, as playful and fun as it is to watch, is actually the result of a long period of data archiving and analysis into how public transport was affected during various ‘Stay at Home’ and ‘Lockdown’ issues within a variety of cities throughout the world during the Covid pandemic. Creating blockbuster-style action scenes: My adventure in 3D animation Who hasn't dreamt of creating breathtaking blockbuster-style action scenes? With this project, I've turned that passion into reality. It was an incredible adventure, where theory met practice, revealing the full complexity of this art form. I still remember daydreaming in front of my television screen, imagining spectacular scenes. That's how my journey into the world of 3D animation began. As I embarked on this project, I quickly realised that the theory I'd learnt in class wasn't enough to create realistic action sequences. Mastering 3DS MAX was essential. The project presented me with a variety of challenges: physics problems, rendering engine constraints, animation, artistic choices and material constraints. Each obstacle shaped and enriched my work. Camera management was a major challenge. How could I capture the rapid movement of the vehicles while offering the viewer a clear view? I experimented with different angles of view, from wide shots to close-ups, to find the right balance between dynamism and legibility. From an artistic point of view, I asked myself: how could I make this chase unique? How could I create an atmosphere that matched the story I wanted to tell? I explored different colour palettes, taking inspiration from trailers for video games like Forza and Need for Speed, as well as films like Fast and Furious, to observe the play of light and shadow and give each scene its own particular atmosphere. Throughout this project, I learnt how to work more efficiently, optimise my resources and organise my scene so that it could be used on a modern production line. I also developed my creativity and my ability to solve complex problems. Thanks to many hours of experimentation, consulting tutorials and exchanges with other artists, I would like to thank Eloi Andaluz Fullà, Jesse Pitela and Allan McKay for their invaluable advice. This animation is not just a simple technical demonstration. It is the fruit of a long creative process where theory meets practice, where art merges with technology. My aim is to transport you to the heart of the action and inspire you to discover what goes on behind the scenes of digital creation. Behind each image are hours of hard work, passion and expertise, with a single goal: to make my viewers dream.
