With a growing number of children being taken into care in certain countries, the need for support services that prioritize those young people is as essential as ever. Français ci-dessous ... Fondation OPEJ Edmond de Rothschild, whose history is intertwined with the Edmond de Rothschild Family Philanthropy, has worked with and for children since 1945, albeit with its services adapting to meet changing requirements over the decades. Its mission focuses on protecting, listening to, and helping children, adolescents, and young people in difficulty, as well as their families, from all backgrounds. Rather than simply being reactive, however, Fondation OPEJ Edmond de Rothschild also provides specialized prevention services, covering employment, integration, schooling, justice, health, housing, and access to rights. Its teams develop tools to address professional integration, school dropout, delinquency, radicalization, and other risky behaviors. Supporting some of the most vulnerable children in society requires dedication and focus; it requires organizations like Fondation OPEJ. Save the Children Australia is committed to helping marginalised and disadvantaged children of all backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples. Although Australian children are considered among the healthiest and safest, in the world, First Nations children and youth continue to be left behind. Socioeconomically, indigenous families are more likely to live in poverty, face higher rates of unemployment and be exposed to family violence and substance abuse. Additionally, First Nations children are overrepresented in the child protection system and more likely to be placed in out-of-home care. These factors compromise the safety and growth of these children, making them susceptible to a continuous cycle of disadvantage. Therefore, it is imperative that SCA focuses on delivering programs to give youth support and opportunities to make positive choices. SCA has worked alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities for the past 65 years to shape Early Intervention and Prevention Programs to provide a safe and secure place for young people. In Kununurra, Western Australia, youth workers provide guidance to help prevent the consequences of negative behaviours. Recreational activities after school and at night give children safe spaces to learn and engage with friends and others in their community. The ‘Back to Country’ youth leadership camp, gives youngsters a medium to reconnect with their Indigenous cultural identity and community. Also, the ‘Reconnect’ program in Perth, focuses on preventing homelessness for at-risk Aboriginal youth. Through training and family counseling, SCA works effortlessly to improve their living situations. More than 1100 young people in Kununurra have been involved in SCA programs since 2009. As a result, youth crime rates, substance misuse and homelessness have been reduced. Alongside this, the initiatives have diverted children and youth to reconnecting with their culture and community and take on interests with education and employment. Save the Children Australia is committed to breaking the cycle of disadvantage faced by First Nations youth by fostering their wellbeing today, so that they will grow into strong and happy leaders of tomorrow. Yesterday, the New York City Council Committee on Aging, chaired by Councilmember Crystal Hudson, held a hearing on the City’s “Community Care Plan,” an initiative that aims to help older New Yorkers age in place and avoid institutional care. The initiative is brilliant, innovative, and has high potential for impact; but it is severely underfunded. As a follow up to the hearing, I published an OpEd in AMNY. There is a clear call to action for New York City to both increase funding for nonprofit employee wages and funding for services that help older New Yorkers age and thrive at home for as long as possible. What I would add to the piece I wrote is the critical role of philanthropy: There is also a call to action for private individuals to contribute and help older New Yorkers age in place and thrive. Nonprofits don’t and can’t only rely on the government to fund these critical services. We also need private individuals and philanthropic institutions to help fill the gaps where government funding falls short, rather than adding more unfunded mandates. Local government can, together with private individuals and philanthropy, make New York City a better place to age and thrive. https://lnkd.in/ecnnNiEj #AgeInPlace #AgeInclusiveCity #OlderAdultsBuiltThisCity Encore Community Services amNY Newspaper NYC Department for the Aging NYC Office of the Mayor New York City Council Crystal Hudson LiveOn NY Human Services Council of New York Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York Anat Gerstein

Access to early learning for those least likely to get it and most likely to be negatively impacted by not having it. Your support is appreciated.
This Giving Tuesday, Help Us Build a Brighter Future! At the Raphah Institute, we believe that early education is the foundation for lifetime success—and we’re making it accessible to more families than ever before through our Early Embrace Initiative. Here’s how we’re transforming lives: Breaking Down Barriers: In partnership with Councilmember Cash, we successfully removed zoning restrictions that hindered home-based child care, like parking requirements per child in care. We also worked with MDHA to revise lease agreements, allowing residents to operate businesses from their homes—creating pathways for financial independence. Empowering Educators: This July, 19 participants graduated from the Early Embrace Initiative, completing two years of education and training. Now, 13 graduates are running child care businesses, serving 130 community members, including 65 children! Creating Opportunities: Families now have access to high-quality child care, allowing caregivers to pursue education, jobs, and financial security. And we’re not stopping there—20 new participants are preparing to launch businesses in our next cohort. Expanding Our Reach: We’ve launched a new cohort in South Nashville for Spanish-speaking immigrant and refugee families and are building connections to start another cohort serving Muslim and Arabic-speaking communities. Why It Matters: Early education isn’t just about today—it’s about giving children a strong start, preventing unnecessary system involvement, and building generational success. How You Can Help: 1️⃣ Donate to support training and resources for caregivers and educators. 2️⃣ Sponsor a childcare business to empower entrepreneurs. 3️⃣ Share this post to amplify the impact! 🎉 Together, we can break cycles of harm, empower families, and create brighter futures. This Giving Tuesday, let’s make a difference—one child, one caregiver, and one community at a time. Donate now: https://lnkd.in/eH2p-Rga #GivingTuesday #EarlyEmbrace #JusticeIsHealing

It's been a sad week in that we announced the closure of a v special charity. Tower Hamlets Opportunity Group was estab 37 yrs ago by Lorraine Dooley. Lorraine had encountered exclusion & felt unwelcome in local EY services with her child with additional needs. There was little understanding of neurodiversity and no support for those navigating an unexpected parenting path. Together with Kim May, they found a space and opened the doors to all families who felt isolated and alone in caring for their children with additional needs. THOG pioneered an inclusive approach to early years ed, registering with Ofsted and ensuring that at least 51% of places were for children with complex physical, emotional & social needs. The team welcomed 100's of families through the doors over the last 4 decades, offering radical hospitality, love and welcome to all. I've been humbled to be part of THOG since 2005. I've learnt and benefited so much more than I've been able to give. It's shown me the strength of community led work. I've been challenged to think differently about how we partner with & trust the expertise of comms & VCSE sector. Too often we view communities like mine in LBTH from a deficit lens, when in fact there is much strength & richness in community despite the challenges we face. In the public sector we've more recently developed an industry of kindness & compassion, recognising the importance in delivering better services. We've built a language around this, instructed staff to "be kind" & researched what makes some places kinder than others. Whilst this is great, what strikes me with projects like THOG is: 💚 THOG staff didn't need a framework or academic paper to know that kindness & compassion matters 🌻THOG staff didn't need to be told about inclusion, it was automatically at the centre of all they did. A deep belief that every child matters & that each child needed an ind. approach to enable them to thrive ❤️ Early intervention should focus on supporting families as much as the children 💠 Enabling children to thrive is multifaceted. It is not about education quality alone, but a holistic approach. Staff would and still go above and beyond to support wider family needs, providing food, signposting and helping with housing, financial and health needs 🌟 THOG staff have never spoken about "hard to reach" children and families. When families in need were referred but couldn't access the centre, the team arranged home visits, and negotiated the use of mini buses to support with transport. They knew it was services being poorly accessible rather than "hard to reach people" 🥰 THOG understood the isolation that many families experienced, their feelings of disempowerment in navigating rigid statutory pathways, the sense of helplessness and feeling devalued. For the charity, seeing the value and the potential in all families & children was core to the incredible impact they've had Thank you THOG (& thanks for indulging my long post)
