———— The Paradox of Diversity: A Nuanced Approach is Key! This is a complex and interesting paradox that I sometimes encounter at work and in life in general. Diversity encompasses a wide range of identities, beliefs, and values, which can sometimes create tensions within the very communities that advocate for diversity. For example, there can be an intersection between religious freedom and LGBTQ+ rights, two important aspects of diversity that may come into conflict. This highlights that supporting diversity requires a nuanced approach, where it is essential to respect each person’s beliefs and practices while striving to promote an inclusive environment. Challenges arise when divergent values seem irreconcilable. It then becomes crucial to find a balance where everyone can express their identity and convictions without harming others. As an ally of diversity, I see this not only as a challenge but also as an opportunity to deepen dialogue and understanding between different communities. Ultimately, I firmly believe in a world where living together in harmony is possible.

‘Passing’ is a complex conversation in the trans community and even extends into other communities. Passing can mean a lot of things. I see it as being perceived as a part of a more dominant group that allows you access and privileges beyond what you would get if you were perceived as the more minoritized group you are from. As a transgender individual, the concept of "passing" is a multifaceted experience that intersects with safety, visibility, and community. While passing grants me a level of safety in my everyday interactions, it also brings about a sense of invisibility within my trans community. Passing provides a shield from the potential harm that can come from being visibly trans in environments where acceptance and understanding may be lacking. However, this safety comes at a cost. It often means that within the trans community, I may not be recognized. This can lead to feelings of disconnect, as though I am living between two worlds — accepted in one for my perceived cisgender presentation, yet feeling unseen in the community that understands my journey intimately. I was at a TDOV event and no one there knew I was trans and in fact, I was told besides ‘passing as cis, I looked pretty good.’ 😖 Passing should not be a measure of worth or validity within the trans community. I invite folks to share their thoughts and experiences on passing and visibility. [image: Leo standing with a decorative shirt on] #TransVisibility #Inclusivity #TransCommunity

Queer GEW - Columbus, Gestalt Experience Workshop In a world that prioritizes the binaries of experience and expression, and is structured around the mainstream of cis- and heteronormativity, queer spaces are rare to come by. We are creating one such space. Bring the range of expressions and experiences that are uniquely yours, and join us in the co-creation of a queer embodied relational field. This workshop will follow the standard structure of a Gestalt Experience Workshop (GEW), while special attention will be given to the emergence of relational and experiential themes specific to the LGBTQIA+ community. In this increasingly complex and sometimes chaotic world, interpersonal relationships have never been more important—or more complicated! Relating effectively with others can advance your professional career and enrich your personal life. In this fast-paced, multitasking world, the ability to relate authentically is easily compromised. It is often easier to withdraw into isolation and lose sight of our need to contribute to the creation of stimulating and supportive relationships and communities. Relating well is based upon using our capacities to be self-aware, curious, and open to another's experience and viewpoint, as well as having the skills to communicate effectively in order to influence with integrity. I’m Done Hiding—And Here’s Why Navigating the world as a queer African American youth has shaped my understanding of identity and the importance of representation. I have always felt a tug at my sense of self—a doubt in how I frame my identity. Growing up in an era that often lacked understanding regarding sexual orientation has contributed to this journey. W.E.B. Du Bois once wrote: “One ever feels his two-ness—an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two un-reconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.” For me, that struggle is even more complex: “It is a peculiar sensation, this quadrupled consciousness… one ever feels their quad-ness: an American, a Negro, a Homosexual, an Artist. Four souls, Four thoughts, Four un-reconciled strivings; Four warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength, resilience, vision, and compassion keep it from tearing asunder.” Today, a conversation with someone close reminded me of the challenges we face when it comes to expressing our true selves. They suggested that being open about my sexuality could alienate me and even jeopardize my professional opportunities. This perspective, unfortunately, reflects a broader societal stigma. Let me be clear: my identity is not a liability. I refuse to limit or hide any part of myself to make others comfortable. The stories I tell are rooted in who I am, and I will not dilute them. This is precisely why I founded Drenn Crowne Media. At Drenn Crowne Media, we’re committed to weaving unique narratives with a Daedalion touch, centering BIPOC characters with reverence and pride. Our mission is to thrill, terrify, and offer an immersive escape, all while remaining unapologetically proud and true to our roots. My company aims to amplify voices that challenge narrow worldviews and reflect experiences that are often overlooked. Whether you’re BIPOC, LGBTQ+, or simply living outside the mold, my stories are for you. I’m sharing my state license as a testament to the authenticity of Drenn Crowne Media. This is real, and I’m proud of the journey I’m on. I invite you to join me in celebrating inclusivity in storytelling and media.

"He, she, they - these are more than just grammatical constructs. They are an integral part of our identities." Today's blog addresses respect, empathy, and the power of words - specifically, pronouns. Inclusivity isn't just about being politically correct; it's about respecting and acknowledging everyone's identity. Here are a few ways we can use language as a tool to include, validate, and EMPOWER ourselves and others - https://lnkd.in/ei9_Sprc #lgbtqcommunity #lgbtqia #pronouns #queercommunity #inclusivitymatters

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategist. Bestselling Author of Reconstructing DEI and DEI Deconstructed. They/Them. LinkedIn Top Voice on Racial Equity. Inquiries: lilyzheng.co.
When people use "DEI" as a slur, what they're really saying is that they're scared of the true meritocracy DEI work has always aimed to create. They're scared of seeing women, Black people, Asian people, Indigenous people, and Latine people, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, and many others from marginalized communities in positions of power. They're scared of people from marginalized communities being paid, promoted, hired, developed, and mentored fairly. They're scared of environments where people across many lines of difference respect each other, get along, collaborate, and cooperate. When people use DEI as a slur, what they're really saying is that they're committed to the opposite of #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion: Homogeneity. Inequity. Exclusion. They want a zero-sum future where they see only people like themselves in power, where only people like themselves are paid, promoted, hired, developed, and mentored well, and where only people like themselves feel safe or respected. As it turns out, this is a deeply unpopular opinion. According to a recent poll, when given a description of DEI, 7 in 10 Americans indicated a positive perception and support for it—including more than 60% of White Americans. When people use DEI as a slur, especially as a racist tool to attack Black leaders and the institutions that support them, we have to do more than just push back on their intentional misuse of the term. We have to pull back the curtains on their full-throated endorsement of homogeneity, inequity, exclusion—supremacy—and make it clear that there is no space in civil discourse for this kind of anti-meritocratic, hateful rhetoric.
